not drinking or smoking means I just spend more on my helicopters...

Better on them than 10 pounds a day poisoning myself

Not sure it saves me any money though not smoking or flying

Some good points have been rasied here, for me it is about wanting and owning "nice kit" i take much pride and pleasure in building, Flying and maintaining all of my gear.....do i need another heli?...no not at all,but yes i do want another and it is nice to have the cutting edge kit in your fleet.
I don't do anything else bar work, family and fly my models,so if you are lucky enough to have the money to spend...go for it

you wouldn't believe the amount of money i spent on that thing. prolly close to 4 figures by time everything was upgraded (remember this was pre align upgrades aswell and they all cost a pretty penny).

however i'm glad to say i've not had the worst first batch heli i've seen, that mantle goes to the knight 50 pro without doubt.

          cheers

I think after a while you can get a pretty good gut feeling even prior to release.

I pre-ordered a Trex 600 many months before they became available, long before they had a prototype flying. I saw the 'Blueprints' It just ticked the right boxes from the outset.

My Questions, Who designed It? Is the design implimented in another version? for example Electric/Nitro bigger/smaller etc. Do they have a proven track record. Big vs small company for spares availibility, Quality vs cost. Weight, layout, Strength, vid of test flights. Odd layouts (henselit/Tornado) Equipment required/recomended. Whats included..blades tails. Combo option/Airframe only. Assembly level..ARTF?

I really like the look of the Outrage 50N.. Velocity? The rotorhead is its main attraction to me. Its got a beefy spindle/mainshaft, sensible AUW too. Layout is familiar. I'll be looking at parts availibility with a competitive price structure.(I hope) closely. Vids confirm its pedigree.

What advantage against the 600N..well the 600N uses a very light flybar so gets pushed around when the airs choppy. I fly mostly in windy conditions. The Outrage has similiar response but with a heavier paddle making it more predictable in a blow.(at least thats what I'm thinking..LOL)

Not too keen on the rear boom stays front mounting with the way the tank protrudes backwards reducing rear end strength (waiting to see a piccie from below yet) to see how the achieved the required rigidity in that area.

I'm not one for having the 'highest quality' at stupid money. I want , performance, reliability and availibility but it must offer affordability.

I don't have any fascination with any of these new helis that are due to be released soon as i'm happy with what i've got at the moment,And as you said Tim what would be the point in getting another heli when he/she can't fly the one he/she has already to it's full potential.I agree with you here.It sounds silly to me.It's like buying a high performance car eg,a ferari before you have got the licence what would be the point?
I say it's more sensible to buy another heli when he/she has outgrown the one they have. For example can that person full on 3D the machine they have now? and do you need something that's faster, more responsive because the one they have now is being pushed to it's limits etc,etc.....If not ,then why buy this other heli when in reality the one they have is completely fine for what your doing.
Seems like something women do and buy loads of shoes, handbags etc when they don't need them.....Seems like the same thing is goin on here.Is it like a competition to see who has the biggest signature of helis?
For me i got into rc helis because i had spare cash from quitting smoking nearly 2 years ago.So i'm not really spending anymore.Plus i don't spend all my money on helis as this is only one of my hobbies.I like rock climbing, skiing and snowboarding and rc helis is cheap compared with these but i wouldn't have 6 snow boards now would i,when i can only use one at a time. It's like helis why have more than one of the same size when you can only use one at a time.Fair enough have three helis of all different sizes then that's ok as they will have all different abilities etc. But like some people have two 450's and i'm like why???? Unless you are a master and entering competitions etc, then why would this be necessary otherwise.
                Cheers Grant

Or like being a club footballer and having predator boots or a 28 handicapper golfer with a set of Calaways. It's a hobby, enjoy it and if you want to spend your hard earned on a shiny new one then do it. Most of us on here can only dream of flying like the best and if a spanking new heli gives us a lift then it's good for the hobby. Remember no one buys the latest and greatest no one designs another one, no new helis.

                    Reasons for change...Lighter/faster/stronger/easier to work on/parts availability/Improved design/Construction/Cost/Stability/re-sale value.

Some models have different flying characteristics that may be benificial to a begineer/Intermediate/competition flyer.

For example beginner, belt drive. stability, strength, cost, reliability.

More than one model, I admit to being guilty on occasion, but I must say being able to Swap/Rob parts is convienient or better still slide no 2 out of the car and go flying. blush Blush

My line of thought. Buying up market parts/helis..

Buy what you know can do the job and is proven. That way you cannot doubt it's capability. This applies to models AND Components.

Yes you need to learn how to use the tools and eventually you either break/wear them out or see something that can accomplish the job better, more easily or cheaper. Motivation also comes in to this and nothings better than playing with a new toy.

So I agree to a certain degree but we all have differing requirements.
