  • Best Tail Servo for HBK2

    Hello all,

What the tail servos would you recommend for HBK2 (with DX7, Esky 0704B HH gyro) up-to/over £40?

Hi Rad, I recently Spektrumized my HBK2 and it's got a Telebee HH Gyro and stock Esky servo which work fine. The tail holds rock solid (for my sort of flying/hovering anyway . The vid below shows it hovering for about a minute and the tail just sits where it's told.

i used a futaba 3153 on my hbk with a spartan gyro it was pretty good. i have a king 3 here which is probably going to get a 9257 which might be a tad heavy but should be a lot better especially with the new tail geometry the king3 has.

having read many posts on the forum, it appears we all have issues with the HBK2, i know i have that are still ongoing, i will detail:-

          1) started out as stock " barebones kit". ( thought it would be a cheap little project !........wrong!)
          2) added JR s7.5 servo's .....CRAP.
          3) E-FLITE G110 GYRO ( EX-BLADE).....fine.
          4) added SPORTSMOTO alu head & hs65mg x ccpm.....fine.
5)added extreme frame stiffener & battery tray, much better, reduced movement of main shaft, although stock canopy does not fit once battery tray fitted so i use a belt cp canopy, its a bit big but allows loads of room for bigger 1500mh batteries, also added 43t tail pulley, not really noticed any great improvement.
          6) added alu tail gearbox & hs55 servo on tail, better than s7.5g any day, ok.
          7) recently went the whole hog and added extreme carbon frame, its great looking, really firm compared to crappy stock frame, although better servo mounts its a bit of a squeeze putting the hs65mg's on, but they do fit. this is where my new issue starts, the 43t pulley has bigger pinch rollers, these do not fit this frame, there too big, so i used originals, but the belt is reallly tight at the pulley end, u can slack of the tail, but it makes no difference at the pulley end. might try refitting original pulley and see then.

i like the size of the hbk2, i think thats what draws us to it, small enough for the back yard and proper ccpm, it just a bit of a bugger to set up!

you'll be fine with the stock frame, it's the extreme carbon frame that i'm having probs with, someone might find a way round this, don't let this put you off mate !

Mine's stock frame too. And after installing the 43t upgrade I found out you need the 9t tail upgrade as well. Ordered it and got it but haven't fitted it yet and don't reckon I will as she flies well. The HBK2 is a money-pit (see my sig) and I reckon the hardware will eventually be going into my newly delivered HKH-450 (£45 inc p&p from HK)

                    Cheers

i used a hitec hs55 purely because i had 1 spare, it works fine with my e-flite G110 Gyro, i only do normal flight with my hb king2, i'm not capable of 3d myself. which servo u use will depend on what gyro u use and weather u want to fly 3d or normal, i'm sure there are plenty of gyro & tail servo combinations u can try, at various costs, and plenty of advice too.
