  • West London flying sites?

To any West Londoners out there... where are you flying? Currently I fly at Little Harlington near Heathrow airport but whilst it's a pretty decent spot ideally I wouldn't mind somewhere that's a touch bigger and where you don't have problems with people playing football etc. Also, 9 times out of 10 when I go there there's nobody else out flying so can get a bit boring!

I've heard about Epsom race course but have read that it's more focused on rc planes -anybody fly down there or anybody have any other suggestions? I don't mind driving a bit of a distance (within reason) if it's a good open site preferably with a good amount of heli flyers.

I fly on the same field Crickets is now weekends so is very difficult unless you fly early mornings or weekdays in the eve otherwise you could try Cranford Park.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

With Cranford Park (at J3 of the M4 right) -is it just a matter of flying in the public park and using the necessary common sense or is there actually some kind of designated flying area? Really I'm looking for somewhere that I can fly my 600N and have a good bit of open space so guess it's not probably not that suitable if it's just a public park.

If your with someone then your be ok & have BMFA you will need to walk half way into the field an area is kept cut as a runway, must admit not many heli flyers get over there but it is a big open field worth a look.
What you can do when your next at the L/H field turn left outsite the gate down to Harlington R/about straight across 500 yds on left green railing thats Cranford park walk over to the middle area to see the runway or you may see someone aready flying, I will warn you people do tend to walk dogs off lead which is why you need someone with you but it has been a flying field for many years.
Today's outlook is fine for flying.

Ok thanks, I'll probably check it out next time I'm down there.

Anyone fly at Epsom, or possibly Croydon? How are these?

I fly at Kempton. Not sure they have any member space left will know more next week at the agm. It's great - private, all members get key to the gate, so no one walking dogs or pushchairs across your flight path, both heli & fixed wings there, can be busy at weekends, but I can often be alone there in the week! - Failing that, there's a disused airfiled at Wisley near the A3 / M25 juction, tarmac strip for fixed wings is great, though a bit of a trek I've heard to walk there with your gear from the car park, but no membership required ! I've had a walk over there, still trying to find the best place to park though! Worth a look too, google it!

Delta7: I just had a look on the website for Addlestone MFC (at Kempton). This place sounds like exactly what I'm after. It would be great if you could get in touch with me regarding availability of membership at the club. I guess I should probably email the address on the website and enquire.

              Thanks.

I've tried contacting Addlestone MFC via their website but I keep getting an error message so I'm not sure that my email has gone through (Maybe it's because I'm using a Mac with Safari?). So I'd appreciate it even more if you could get some information on when it might be possible for new members to join.

Send me a pm, and I'll try and dig out the email address for the membership secretary.

Actually, it looks like my message must have got through as I have just had an email back saying that my details have been forwarded to the membership secretary so fingers crossed.

The other place that heli flyers go is at Uxbridge I think it stopped whilst they are laying pipe work but the entrance into there is off Honeycroft Hill
