  • Can real helis fly as good as Pheonix helis?!

I've recently bought Phoenix and I'm amazed how much more agile and powerful the helis are than my real ones. They all seem to be completely unboggable whatever you do with them and the flip/roll rates are extremely fast -can this level of performance really be achieved in real life? I'm thinking that I probably need to get some better batteries for my TRex 450 and 500 as they just don't compare well to the sim. (I'm using Zippy's at the moment). My TRex 250 does seem to have performance that is approaching the sim but I am using an Outrage pack with that.

Its probably not down to performance its probably more to do with on the sim your fearless and can gun your heli to full whack without fear of cost if you crash.
If however im wrong i think Phoenix has settings to make it more realistic like tx failure etc so see if there is one to bog the head or see if you can custom a throttle curve and make the revs dip when you give it pitch to simulate slowed headspeed
    Nik.

    Before you ask:

    About 2 miles
    Over £500
    Very difficult
    Over 80mph
NO, you can't have a go

Yes I've found the settings to make the helis less powerful and more 'boggable' but I'm just wondering really whether this 'Phoenix' level of performance is actually attainable in real life because if it is I'd like to try and achieve it.

My 450 is an SEV1 by the way and my TRex 500 is the stock setup.

Generally the phoenix helis are overpowered. however I find the cyclic and collective response is realistic - just the head doesn't slow under load. I've messed with the motor power settings and max power rev numbers and got a 600n and knight3D that are a bit more realistic but the way the head slows and bogs is not the same as real life. The other thing is the rotor wash interaction or something (can't remember exactly) which makes the heli a little more squirrelly but they still fly a bit on rails compared to the real thing.

The exception for me is the trex500 and the 450. The 450 looses head speed under load and in the hover its really hard to keep still on phoenix. My real 450 is both more responsive and powerful and more stable in the hover.
My real 500 is also over powered compared to phoenix, but that the revolectrix 5s4200 and scorpion motor for you.

The autorations are really difficult in phoenix - much easier in real life! (thankfully).

Well I'd be interested to hear from anyone with a stock 500 as to how it compares to the Phoenix one. I haven't flown my 600N in a good while and my flying has progressed a fair bit since so I'm looking forward to taking it out soon and hoping I can get the Phoenix feeling out of it. And to Sqwidge -yes I hear you on the Psychological aspect that makes things much easier in the sim but it's definitely not just that.

I've got a stock 500. apart from the flybar which is off a 600. I am a newbie, just hovering, but my real 500 is a lot more stable than the phoenix one. Course, that could be the flybar mod.

Thanks Brian. I agree about the stability but I'm talking more about the flip/roll rates and general 'pop' on the collective. I think I'm going to try the 600 flybar mod though as this might help things along. I am also running the smaller of the two pinions that came with the kit so I guess that might make for a slower cyclic but I guess if I up the pinion then bogging can become more of an issue?

All the phoenix heli's are meant to be customised by YOU to make them like your heli. Every heli is different and depending on what pinion you use, throttle curve, pitch settings etc it will react differently, bog differently etc etc

I could build three 500s and set them all up to be totally different using the stock kit and electronics....... there is no such thing as how a stock 500 feels, what you get in the sim is how the person who made the flight model thinks their heli flys, which might be totally different to yours.

Yeah fair comment. I have actually customised them to be more like my helis I'm just surprised how much WORSE I've had to make them to feel realistic -that's what made me ask if it's possible to get the real thing to fly with this much power and roll rate.

my 500 has more power and faster roll rate than phoenix.... but it's not stock.

I have a 'standard' 500 that I am trying to fly and I have started using the Raptor 50 on pheonix as it's more realistic to how my 500 actually flys. The standard 500 on Pheonix is much harder to hold in a hover than the real thing in my limited experience.

The target has got to be then rather than make the Pheonix model fly like yours make yours fly like Pheonix

The 500 as has been said can be setup to flip and roll very quickly, its a very agile machine. the one for me that does feel very similar to the real thing is the 700. I used to use the knight, but the tail is very unstable.

                            Exactly

I'm tempted to try an Outrage battery but If I remember rightly they're about 90 quid each which is 3 times what the Zippy's are.
