  • Cable ties on the esc

Im going to mount my esc on the side of my trex 450, im sure I have read that putting cable ties over the heat sink can cause damage? Is this true or just an old wives tale?

oh dear god no you need that extra 3mm of cooling, it might turn into molton metal !

i have never had any problems, i had my 600e esc held on with cable ties and also my blade 400.

Should be fine mate. The only damage you could cause is if you crank the tie wrap down too hard and crush a component or bend the PCB. I put a bit of velcro underneath the ESC before the tiewraps, for a bit of a cushon as well as extra grip.

FYI I was in Fastlads yesterday when they had a customer return a brand new ESC as faulty.

After looking at the ESC the customer had fastened a cable tie far too tight around the ESC causing the metal outer case to short the circuit board inside.

I need not tell you the result regarding warranty.

Velcro straps are a much better option.

cut a section of silicone fuel tubeing the width of yor ESC now slide the fuel tube on the zip tie. when you pull the zip tie up just make sure the peice of fuel tube is sitting over the area where the tie cross`s the ESC.

Some well-known manufacturer (maybe Align or Kontronik, I can't remember in which manual I read it) explicitly forbids using cable ties. This may have to do with vibrations.
I use velcro tape, and something soft underneath (some used piece of Zeal gel works great).

Its all cable tied in place now

There arent going to be any issues putting the Rx near the esc either are there?

Most likely not. Well, I'd keep them separate out of superstitious fear.
Assuming that isn't possible, I'd overcome my superstitious fear... whether that is wise or not depends on your budget for "learning lessons the hard way"
