    It only takes one good crash to wipe out any savings you made.

    Would be easy enough to make up a multi plug so it was one connection.

    RS Components would have something like that.

      True; I don't think servo plugs are particularly suitable for what they're used for; they're not locking for a start, and so can tend to be very tight to compensate.

        If you were going to do this seriously then you could easily make up a wiring harness that had a propper locking connector between the heli and the gyro/receiver.

        I dont think this is a very practical idea unless you can build a gyro and receiver with multiple memorys for different models.. in the same way that modelmatch works on spectrum radios.

        Having to bind the receiver and setup the gyro every time I wanted to swap heli's would be way too much trouble for me.

        It is a nice idea, but a manufacturer would have to make a bespoke system to make it practical.. if spectrum and spartan could get together and make something then it would work nicely. To only have to buy one top class gyro and receiver would make owning multiple helis much cheaper.

          you could use a connector like;

            I too was thinking of an all-in-one connector. Being in the aviation industry I have access to Cannon plugs a little like that pictured below. These are pushed together and locked into place by turning the knurled ring and are used to connect wiring on most if not all aircraft.

            I still need to get my head around the issue of binding of which has been spoken. Perhaps due to my lack of understanding I still can't understand quite why this would be an issue. I'm going to do a little more research.

              £200 in this hobby is neither here nor there, save yourself the hassle and spend it Martin, not worth the trouble. Just my opinion.

                I kind of have to agree -I think it's going to be quite a hassle to go down this road unless your not going to swap it very often and as pointed out there's the risk of forgetting to switch to the correct model in your transmitter and that could be an expensive mistake.

                  I think the issue is that when you bind the rx it also sets the failsafe positions. In theory you wouldnt have to rebind but in practice it would be very dangerous. Possibly even to the point of not being insured by Bmfa although I cant say this for certain.

                    Yes I guess that's definitely the crucial point. Now, if you were fortunate enough that all the servo directions were the same on both models then I THINK the fail safe positions would be almost the same (give or take a few clicks either way) -can't think of a reason why it would be otherwise.

                      Remember that the Rx will be bound to the MODEL in th TX, not the TX. It would only work if you were using one model memory and the chance of that working are slim to none

                        Yep - all fair comments.

                        It was just a thought really. I'm a subscriber to the "The only stupid question is the one that doesn't get asked" school of thought.
