  • Another heli-tote idea?

    Hi guys

Had a flash of inspiration whilst laying awake in my bed this morning. If my enquiries on the bespoke heli-bags does not come off, how about using cricket bags?

I just took a peek on this site and there are several that may fit the bill:

Gunn and Moore 606 Big Bag Cricket Bag - Cricket - Barringtons Sports

Readers Team Wheelie Bag - Cricket - Barringtons Sports
    Martin

Most of the Aligns, fair few Spektrum bits, bunch of Align & HiTec servos, OBE, VD & Bar.

They come in all different sizes and look to have a few pockets that may even take transmitters etc. And some of them are dirt cheap too.

I can feel a trip to my local cheapo sports shop too.

Well, clearly that's more the kind of price it should be if they can make those for that money.

Unfortunately they are all a bit too small for anything above maybe a trex 500. A raptor 30 is about 120cm long and about 42cm tall.

But a rectangular bag is not a bad idea and maybe there is something out there already just that bit longer and taller.

Aah ok!! Would the sides of the cricket bags be sturdy enough to protect the heli tho? I suppose you could pad it out with stiff foam if you wanted

Fair point Murph. I wouldn't buy online (not without seeing one in the flesh).

On the other hand, I'm really just after something to pop the 500 into, with a few accessories, to take to the field. Whatever I put it in, even a bin bag, would offer more protection than it gets at present (i.e. none)

I do like those wheelie cricket bags though, if only they were just a bit longer and taller.

I remember someone mentioning a golf hard case some time ago, so perhaps I'll do a search and see what else is out there.

I like this Plusminusten bag I have but would like something a bit more rigid and wheels would be cool as I have to carry mine quite a ways on foot.

As you say, probably too small for anything bigger than a 500. Perhaps my next flash of inspiration will answer that one...

                    Well, the thing that gets really really close is known as a 'travel cover' for golf bags;

[ame=http://www.amazon.co.uk/Travel-Cover-Wheels-Confidence-Golf/dp/B001NBIAPW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=sports&qid=1240767542&sr=1-1]New Confidence Travel Cover with Wheels PADDED: Amazon.co.uk: Sports & Leisure[/ame]

Some are definitely long enough and possibly tall enough. And they start quite cheap.

The motherlode of potential heli bags

Just to add; If you go look on Ebay under 'golf travel cover' there is a huge selection of bags that are probably the closest in dimensions to what we want for helis in a bag that already exists (excepting of course a dedicated heli bag).

You can get the basic nylon bags really cheap and use them either as a travel bag or as a dust cover.

Then there are padded bags and a couple hard flight cases.

I'm pretty sure most of the bags will fit a 30/50 size heli as most have lengths around 120/130cm, width around 30cm and height around 35cm. Most 30/50 helis will be a bit taller but not as wide and the flexibility of the bag and extra width should allow a fit, but keep in mind the height of the flybar in front depending on how much of an angle it rests at with the blades in a blade grip.

I am curious about a couple of the hard plastic flight cases if the height is workable but I'll need to find a local stockist and actually look at one.

In any case I am tempted to get several of the cheaper bags just as dust covers because they are seriously cheap (on Ebay anyway, like £15.00 ish)

                        Hi Guys

I'm making some progress on these bags. I have just provided the supplier a picture containing dimensions of my 500 - see attached.

At the moment I reckon the price is gonna work out about £30 a bag which I don't think is too bad.

If anyone else is interested, and has a 450, 600 or 700 assembled and could send me the dimensions in a similar format to the attached document, I can get all sizes costed out.

                        Cheers

As I said before, Martin I'd be interested - very interested at that price!

OK Brian - I'll keep you and all others that are interested in the loop.

I hope someone with a smaller/larger heli than the 500 gives me some dimensions too.

I am interested too. I have TREX 500 and 600. Please keep me in the loop.

                              Thanks
