  • Hex starter shaft...

Anyone know where I can get a hex starter shaft that has a hex (or possibly 3 sided) shape at BOTH ENDS? I use a cordless drill to start my engine and the round starter shaft that I have slips in the chuck sometimes.

(I've tried dremelling flat spots on it by the way but it's very difficult to get them straight so the shaft ends up wobbling all over the place).

    Thanks.

You could just cut the bent bit off a 6mm Allen key, too.

Sounds perfect then -thanks. Might try the allen key suggestion as well.

Be sure that the shaft is long enough or you may find that the chuck fouls the rotor head when you try to start: a 6mm allen key is unlikely to be long enough for the job. I too use a cordless drill to start my Raptor and my solution was to buy a hex extension bar from a DIY store for less than a £4. These bars are intended to extend wood drill bits and have 1/4 inch flats (about 6.2mm) so I carefully filed the ball end down a tiny amount so that it would fit the starter shaft. Being hex all the way down it grips the chuck a treat.

                Something like this: http://www.wickes.co.uk/Drill-Bits/F...on/invt/168072

It needs a bit of fettling but it's very long and very cheap. Happy to explain further or send photos if required.

Thanks for that suggestion as well. Think I'll probably get the one from Fast Lad's as it's not too expensive.
