  • A good day at the 3D Champs funfly. It started badly with drizzle and I hadn't brought any cover. Eventually it cleared up and I ran the genny from about midday until sundown. Flew with George and the blokes from WHFC. Then atomiccomp joined me for a couple of hours, and finished off the day shooting the breeze with Rachel and Maria. Looking forward to going back tomorrow and seeing some more top notch flying.

      • That's her. As far as I understand she's been flying for 2 years, and started helis after she got a toy quad.

Today was another good day at the 3D Champs. Russell Cleaver's freestyle was the most fun thing I've seen in ages, almost plowed it every time he got near the ground and the blade stop auto and save was unbelievable. Duncan and Alex were amazing as usual, no change there. Callum Henson has made a big leap recently, very impressive flying and demos. Matt Bishop's freestyle was incredibly low, every dive within inches of the ground.

I think there were 2 or 3 crashes, one of which went in really hard and ended up somewhere near the pilot after it rolled a bit

          • Russel absolutely nailed it. He just put it all on the line for that flight, then went back to racing quads.
I really really hope someone videoed it.
Current fleet: Goblin Thunder Sport (700), Trex 700L, Logo 600, Specter 700, Henseleit TDR, V-Baaa control.
Next heli: I have pretty much everything I want. Maybe I'll upgrade some electronics or something.

                    • Hey up

Spent the last two days at our field in Beelsby, North Lincolnshire. We had in our pocession a small BBQ, and managed to have it out both days. Plenty of plank flyers yesterday, but mainly helis today as the wind was up a little.

233 flights so far this year.

                          • Out again today with my new 450L Dominator.
The first time, last week, ended badly with a crash. All my bits came and so with new rotor blades (main and tail) and landing skids i drove to the park.
The weather was lovely with a few gusts of wind. I started with my BLade 230s and did some hovering, nose in and nose out for a couple of batteries.
Then i did a flight on the newly repaired 450L. Mush smoother than the 230s and hovering lovely. The next flight i thought i would try some nose in flying. Unfortunately that's where it all went wrong. I drifted of and just lost my mind for some reason.
Heli slams into ground. Brand new skids broken in 3 places and rear stabiliser fin snapped a bolt. (see pictures) god knows how i'm going to get that out!
Decided to give up on this whole thing. I've been at it for too long to be so bad at it.
I can't afford to keep crashing. All i want to do is fly some nice circles. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK??!!
Threw everything roughly into my bag.
Stormed off to the car. Ignoring a dog walker's cheerful "lovely morning!"
Drove home stopping only briefly to shout at a van driver who dared try and pull out in front of me.
I've calmed down a bit now as i've superglued the skids back together and played with the cat (who's now hiding in his safe place)
Maybe i'll give it another go.
But i had totally had enough.

That bolt looks like it's threaded right up to where it's broken off. If it is, just get a pair of pliers on the other end and wind it out anti-clockwise, like you were undoing a normal bolt.
