  • Lipo's in road vehicles

Is their a shortage of lipo's because the car industry will be using them in electric powered vehicles ???

I know it's more likely that A123 cells would be used.

Li-po is far too advanced for the auto industry... they are only just playing with Li-ion. Still, one day they might move on to A123 or something mroe suitable - isnt the enviromental cost of a Prius higher than a normal car?

Do knock eletric cars mates - they might be our salvation - current economic situation might be the BIG push electric car industry needs.

Have you seen Tesla cars? There is a guy in US who actually flies an electric powered aircraft.

Thought I add another side to the argument.

This is what Clarkson wrote about the Tesla TopGear experience in the Times
                  http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/dri...cle5483422.ece

All of which brings me on to the curious case of the battery-powered Tesla sports car that I reviewed recently on Top Gear. Things didn’t go well. The company claimed it could run, even if driven briskly, for 200 miles, but after just a morning the battery power was down to 20% and we realised that it would not have enough juice for all the shots we needed.

Happily, the company had brought a second car along, so we switched to that. But after a while its motor began to overheat. And so, even though the first was not fully charged, we unplugged it — only to find that its brakes weren’t working properly. So then we had no cars.
The Tesla still is only using Li-Ion so hardly ground breaking...

Clarkson got into trouble for that episode of top gear as the car didnt run out of battery power at all. They pretended that it had run out of power for "dramatic effect"

according to the Government's own figures:

Delivering 1kWh via mains electricity to your socket in the wall produces 0.53 kg CO2.

Generating an equivalent 1kWh using 'evil' petrol and an internal combustion engine only gives out 0.24 kg CO2.

                      Hmmmm
                      73

On a scale of 0 to 3D, about 1.53 and counting (backwards at the moment...). Getting there though, 0.1D at a time!

Tesla is a much smaller organisation compared to BMW, Renault etc but they decided to bite the bullet. The design of their cars are much more futurastic than the image of electric cars we're used to. Yep, the battery technology needs to be improved and the bottleneck here is the battery technology - none of the major car manufactuers have so far put any serious money in this area... let's hope they will do now.

Clarkson has a few other irrational pet hates. He admits his programme is "Entertainment" and not factual as it used to be some years ago.

"Energy saving bulbs" were consided gimmicks but it took 20 years...

                        Cheers
