yeah, I have a funny feeling they are meshed too close, I have 2 heatsinks located on the middle of each can and last night they built up heat quite quickly, how do I lessen the tightness?, loosen the screws and move the motor slightly?, there is a bit of play on the lower gear but when left to it's own devices it sits close, I put a tiny bit of hair clipper oil on the pinion with a pin and it definately sounds a bit quieter and feels a bit smoother. Any ideas on the top rotor needing left cyclic to make it kick in again?, it's only started happening last night and today.

Also, the popular consensus seems to be that learning on the Buzzfly is quite a bit harder than learning on a larger heli due to it being tiny and rather frisky, although as you have proved that it can be done Holst, maybe you are just naturally talented bud, do you have plenty patience?BRODIE

I had a basic simulator to learn on as well.
Once you can keep control of the tail so that its always pointing towards you its not all that hard to keep it from crashing.
but my heli was flying propely, it sounds like yours isnt quite right which is making it ten times harder for you. I did crash it ALLOT when I first started but I didnt break very much and I probably have more patience than most.
Flying my 450 size heli is harder than the 4#3B, it reacts quicker and you have the wind to contend with. Also you have the worry of expensive parts bills if you crash it

oh, I really thought it would be easier, I'd be interested to see how I'd get on if the se was set up properly, I can imagine the fear of flying a 450 and worrying about crashing and it costing a fortune, nothing ventured nothing gained tho eh?, the space in the venues will let me learn to hover indoors which is a good thing as won't have to contend with the wind at all so will probably start learning indoors then move to hovering outside, sim before all of that tho.BRODIE

Hi Brodie i noticed on one of your posts you have the heatsinks located in the middle of the can , make sure you are not blocking the cooling vents to the motor as they are pretty much central on the motor . I dont seem to get excessive heat build up in the motor or ESC on my 43b but do allow it to cool between batteries . Not to sure i would agree with the post on the 450 size Helis reacting quicker than the micros , everyone to there own oppinion but i find the bigger the model wether it be fixed wing or rotary the slower things tend to happen . I find the Blade 400 to be a lot more stable than the skittish little 43b but both a lot of fun in there own way . Just one thing i would say if you do get something like the Blade 400 you can tame it down a lot by adopting the settings put on this forum by guys like Boggy they help a lot . Any way keep at it and good luck . RobRob .

Cheers Rob, I was kinda thinking about the science behind it and thought that larger would mean more stability, more air being displaced, the smaller object would have a higher power to weight ratio too I imagine which would make it really twitchy and lively, I'll def keep at it, just need to keep my temper, reminded myself of my Dad when he took up Golf, him coming back from the green when he first started his 'hobby' absolutely seething at his own inability to grasp it quickly, losing his temper with his clubs and swearing like only us Scots can do, I think him and I are far too into instant gratification and if this hobby teaches me anything it will be patience, and possibly the ability to stop shouting at inanimate objects when I can't get them to perform the way I'd like.
cheersBRODIE

If you managed to learn to play the guitar you must have some patience.
I have a guitar but im rubish at it.
A bigger heli might be a little more stable than your SE, but its still going to be much much less stable than your CX. Dont buy a bigger heli thinking that it will be alot easyer to fly, it wont be.sigpic

I've been playing for a good while and luckily for me it kinda came natural, that and lighting design, creative side of my brain seems ok, probably cos I'm a lefty......unfortunately there are things that are the polar opposite to that and I think flying is going to be one of the things that will take me time, I'm in no way thinking that a Blade is going to be anything like flying a contra, I've read far too much from the members here to have any of those delusions bud.

woohoo, I finally managed to tame the se!!!!!!!!!!!!!, ever so slightly, having finished the laminate in my soon to arrive sons room I had an empty(but rather small)playing field, no training gear as I really do think it hinders rather than helps on this particular 4#3b, just seems more stable without it than with, gone thru two lipos and am now having coffee, It will hover by the time I give up tonight as I'm almost there, just need to be slightly quicker but more relaxed, so have renewed excitement there.
On the down side, I have found out why the cx was having issues, the retaining bolt on the bottom gear has sheared, so the inner shaft isn't holding at all, will get some spares and sort it later. At least I know what the problem was and I can fix it.BRODIE

Good on you Brodie , it really is just a patience thing just got to keep at it . There are a couple of things you can do to tame these micro Helis , on my 43b which is just a rebadged version of the Buzzfly i cut down the throws on the 3 in 1 theres a pot that you can turn , also if you make sure the flybar paddles are both slightly higher on the leading edge Pointing up slightly it will make quite a difference to the handling , much more stable . Hope that makes sence and helps . Rob .Rob .

Nice one brodie
Once you can get it in the air for more than ten seconds it gets alot easyer.
Just try and concentrate on he rudder as the tail will tend to drift a bit, once you can keep the tail pointing towards you all the time you should be able to hover for much longer
The training gear is unnecicary as the blades are very strong. If I had realised you had training gear on I would have told you to ditch it earlyer.sigpic

Congratulations, you'll nail it in the end!
Another suggestion I've recently seen (don't think it was here) is to bend out the skid on the right hand side to set the main rotor at an angle while the heli is on the ground; this helps reduce the translating tendency on take off--- very useful when operating in a small space!Neil H: Certified

I can't actually believe it!!!!!, it's in the air!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, it might only be for a couple of seconds still cos I think I'm getting far too excited about actually seeing it off the deck,...........it was in the air.., I might aswell admit that I'm waiting for the super glue to dry on my battery tray before going at it again, four lipos on charge.
also had mild panic attack when hair wrapped itself round the tail motor and sent it crazy.
cheers everybody, all the advice has DEFINATELY helped, I'll just say it one more time then I'll stop
IT'S IN THE AIR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BRODIE

I guess people's experiences vary.Originally posted by Holst View PostThe training gear is unnecicary as the blades are very strong. If I had realised you had training gear on I would have told you to ditch it earlyer.
I found trainng gear made my (original, pre 2.4GHZ) BuzzFly manageable.
I never broke main blades, but just about everything else...Yes, it's th@ tw@ Scallyb@...
