  • Raptor 50 Tail Failure again!!!

    Hi all,

Flew my Heli again yesterday, very very bad news - didn't save the tail failure this time.

It was my first flight and I was only two mins into it

The problem was; the link between the pitch arm and the blade grips on the tail split.

I was doing 4 point flips about two feet off the ground when the tail went on me, whilst in the vertical position

I am not very happy, as this repair is going to cost me atleast £350 n im skint!!!

Ah well!! my lucks gotta run out at sum point....

    Happy Flying All

    Brian.

Maybe having just had a problem with the heli, you shouldnt have been doing 4 point flips 2 feet off the ground 2 mins into its first flight

I NEVER put my heli thru any routine unless it has had a thorough shakedown

Why dont people check their models over

Funny thing is i gave it a good inspection, after the last tail rotor failure and i flew the heli a few days after, no problems and checked it over after that flight and for some reason it decided to do it again!

Jeez, that looks very nasty. I can imagine what ya must be feeling like at the mo but as they say, get it sorted and back out asap. Apparently it's the best way.

know how you feel (although not quite to that extent!). im still learning the basics with a combination of my hummingbird (because its cheaper to repair, and seems more reiliant to the odd bump) and my raptor 30.

the hummingbird has broken a few head parts and a set of blades, total cost £18. the raptor has crached twce now. the first was due to a faulty ni-cad in the RX. i was 2 minutes in to a flight, still checking it over, and bang, it rolls over in to the ground, smashing a set of carbon blades, and breaking a few links, and the blade holders. cost £45ish. 2nd crash was totally unlucky, and there was nothing i could do once it started to happen. im still using a training under carriage, and had been flying for about an hour or so with no real problems (just setting stuff up, adjusting throttle and pitch curves etc). it was all going really well, had been getting a little more adveturous, making a few more quick manouvers etc, when i stopped it about 10 feet up in the air hovering around 5 metres in front of me. i had it in a perfect hover, probably the best ive managed so far, totally steady, when it started to vibrate. very lightly to start with, but then as i started to bring it down, it became clear that one of the training struts had come loose, and then it came free, flying upwards in to the blades. it fell like a sack of spuds out of the sky, but luckily it landed totally on its undercarriage. the only damage was another set of blades (wooden this time though).

its been very frustrating so far, but very rewarding at the same time. ive spent the weekend checking it over, making adjustments etc ready to give it another flight maybe tomorrow night or tuesday. hopefully it will come back in one piece

                      keep the faith!

                      Jamie

Why spend £350 fixing a Raptor?????

Sell all the shiny bits on eBay and get yourself a Sceadu 50 - you'll be quids in and have a better helicopter, even straight out of the box.

i fly my dad's Sceadu 50 and i dont like it much at all, i like my rappy a lot more.

My dads heli is very pitchey. and doing an auto is not a lot of fun at all.

I think the C of G is too high.

I will sell all my blig and buy a knight 50. i would love to fly one first just to see what its like.

Ade. are they going to make a knight 50 for reflex and PhoenixRC?

the stock paddles on most helis are pretty nasty.

stick a set of V paddles on the sceadu with the mixer arms on the inner hole on the flybar carrier and it flies nice.

next time your down assuming i havnt put it in the ground you can have a go.
