  • Blade 400 3D or Twister 3D Storm...

If you had to choose between either a Blade 400 3D or a Twister 3D Storm which would you choose and why?

Seems the twister is a little cheaper that a Blade even when you take into account the purchase of a Spektrum DX6i + Rx.

T-Rex and Mini Titan's will work out too expensive to consider so thats out of the question at least for the moment.

I would say the blade but that is because I have got one! They seem fairly aesy to work on after a crash/or set up.

Interesting as that was what I looked at to start with but they are not easy to come by it seems... most places (all I have tried anyway) don't have stock
As such I looked around for an alternative and came accross the twister which seems to be a very similar beast although possibly harder to obtain spare parts...

I have a Twister Storm and the spares are interchangeable.. There are a few spares that i buy from E-flite instead of the JP as they are better (e.g. the feathering shaft)..

The twister has a better motor (so i'm told)..

When i was looking however, either of them would have done for me.. It's just that i stumbled across the Twister first

          Good luck choosing..

          Cheers,

Exact same helis. Just the frames differ slightly. If you can get the Storm cheaper with a radio then do that. However, this will involve setting it up as the Blade comes ready to go.

Cant go wrong with either :-)

Having had both helis id say the Blade has a far better quality/stiffer chassis......Also I prefer the battery position on the Blade aswell.

Setting up not a problem, I can sit for hours tinkering with my Rappy setup Would check over the blade anyway to ensure I was happy with its setup.

Basically the same heli as the parts are interchangeable.

Now the T-Rex 450 Pro has been release, you could find many bargains on earlier T-Rex 450 models.

However, from personal experience, I would recommend looking out for a second hand glass or carbon fiber T-Rex 500. They are more stable and cost very little extra than the 450 to repair. You can fly these both in and out side at many club.

                    Good luck!!

As a newbie, I would say Blade as thats what I have & was recomended for a beginner - but still not convinced thats really a beginners heli. But I have found it relatively easy to repair with help from here, plus spares are cheap. Plus I was told the spektrum was a worthy reason to buy the whole rtf package..

Yup, parts are inter-changeable but the feathering shafts are different in that the Twister's is slightly longer and has outer threads on the shaft ends. Not an issue, but I found out the hard way that my toolkit didnt have 5.5mm hex socket to do up the nuts. Well, at leats my toolkit has increased in size now after some investment in good tools from Century UK.

For a true novice, I would recommend the coaxial CX2 . So stable and easy to learn the orientations of four point hovers. Plus it can be flown around the house.

Once proficient in all orientations, a Blade 3D with Spektrum DX6i would be a good upgrade.

As the CX2 has a Spektrum 6100e receiver, your could continue to use the CX2 on the DX6i around the house.

Many make the common and costly mistake of by-passing coaxial for larger less stable heli's. This commonly hinders the learning experience as crashes cause down time and knock the confidence.

From personnel experience, I have done the following:-
                              - Started with a Picco-z Christmas 2007,
                              - Moved onto 2s E-Sky Lama V4 coaxial in January 2008,
                              - A 400 size 3s E-Sky King 2 by March 2008,
                              - A 6s T-Rex 500 in August 2008,
                              - January 2009 a 12s T-Rex 600 electric super pro.
Now I am doing loops, rolls and hovering inverted
However, everyone learns at different rates too.

                              Good Luck!!
