  • Tail fins and long grass

were I fly the grass is not overly long but long enough for the tail to sometimes snag on the grass on lift off.. why the maunufacturers of the Blade decided to add a little snag hook on the fin is beyond me. WHY

Anyhow, not the most elegant solution but this works for me....on landing the servo horn just pushes the grass down

Oh, i thought carbon tail fins with bits cut out were only there to stop the blades hitting the floor, not to weathervane.

Hmmm, dont know about that weathervaning. At my level it makes no diff whatsoever. I flown both with them on and as now and cant see or feel any diff in my crazy flying
What i do know though is that on quick lift offs the thing doesnt want to tip back as the tail snags in the grass..ive seen pics of table tennis balls stuck onto fins, probably for the same reason as my mod.

i think i understand now, does the standard tail fin for your heli have a hook on the bottom?

                  Ye, like this.

This is obviously not the tail but its the same kinda moulding on the fin !!
E-flights cunning plan to get more money out of the ususpecting newbie ?

I did cut it off then just made this little set up when the new tail unit was fitted.

The plastic Raptor tail fin has the same bit at the bottom, can be a pain when you dig the tail in lol!

When operating on long grass I find a hovering auto a good way to land without damaging anything. You might get a tiny bit of grass caught up on the tail shaft, but nothing that can't be cleaned off. Just hover low and hit throttle hold.
