  • Log book - anyone maintain one?

    Hi guys

I am considering starting a log book for my heli, just as one does for a "real" aircraft. The UK CAA produce a good one called CAP 398:

I was going to use it to log flight times, repairs, maintenance, mods etc.

What do ya reckon? Am I nuts?

cool idea i may do this
then if you ever come to sell you can give it to the buyer to show when paets was upgraded
if the heli was crashed ect
good idea pal may set about doing that tonight after upgrading the belts tail

Not a bad idea, but you obviously have too much time on your hands

              Oh no....not more paperwork

Give up on the idea in case the Government's 'Lets make People fill in more Forms & so we can Tax them & Poke our noses into their business & justify our index-linked Pension' knobs get hold of the idea and make it mandatory.

Stuart...can you please delete this thread before GCHQ spot it and rat on us flyers.????

Mart...please float any more stupid ideas in front of the Mods before posting lol

If you think you can keep it up then go for it
I thought about the same thing in the past, but when you're at the field on a glorious sunny summers day (one of the three we get each year ) flying tank after tank - you tend to forget the log book

                      I say you, meaning I
                      LOL

Hmm yea i still have most of my reciepts from the start. My 1st ever crash came to £120 on my Trex 450 I also started a real geek lipo log when i started with my Revolutions/Revelectrics. I write down the mah put back in & i'm up to 61 cycles now & 65 on an Align pack which is still holding it's own against them.

I keep a log of just the # of flights/tanks for my trex and (now dead) freya.

I started in the hobby properly in Feb 2008 and have logged 244 flights on my Trex 600n and had 26 flights on my Freya before I wrote her off

The purpose of me keeping a log, even one as simple as this, is to learn things like...

                              - how many flights/tanks do I get before I kill me OS50 bearings
                              (ans: 187)

                              - how many flights/tanks between crashed
(ans: 94 before the first crash, 156 before the first forced auto-rotation)

                              - how many flights/tanks did I have before I did my first loop, inverted, attempt at stall turn etc

I am sure there will come a point where I won't bother keeping a record but it makes me happy to know how many 'hours' my engine & servos etc have on them.
