  • what goes phut bang....

    ok not a joke,

I went for a flight today, the first flight since i totalled my cp2, everthing was working well she went up and down and hovered pretty well i thought, she went higher so i brought her down and loved the whole bit.

i went onto battery no2, she flew hovering and practicing moving when i heard an unusual noise that sounded like the motor stop for a fraction of a second, i tried to bring her down but it did it again and hit the tarmac hard from about 5 - 6 foot nose first.

the damage is repairable of course and will be in the air very soon, the question is.........

Does anyone have any ideas what might of gone wrong?

could it be the motor possibly getting too hot? it was running for about 25 mins or so

    regards

    chris

It sounds like overheated motor speed control to me.
The noise might have been a capacitor popping.
    Check it over very carefully.

If its a brushless motor there isnt much to go wrong with them, if it looks ok and the bearings are good then it was probably the speed controler.
You can probably test the motor windings for shorts with a multimeter to be safe.

ok first of all thanks to all those who read and replied all advice greatley received.

now then, ive started to try and repair her and the damage isnt too bad, the part where the 4 in 1 fastens to is broken so ive glued it for now (its worth a try) the skids are broken but can also be glued as they are broken in a joint (thats now done) the motor spins up ok without any hiccups and runs smooth (took what was left of blades off) so i think the motor / speed controller was getting hot (prob my fault for getting carried away with the flying he he he )

thanks again guys as always a great help

          regards
