  • ~Longest flight time~

Hi guys, can anyone recommend a lipo that gives long flight time?
It's for relaxed hovering flying* =)

If you want longer flight times you have to give up perfromance. This is the issue as I see it with electric models. By changing the gear ratio to lower the headspeed you will draw less current from the battery and increase the flight time. You are limited by the canopy and battery placement as to what will fit. I think the best you can hope for is to find a flatter wider 2500mAh pack.

Or do as Rob suggested and fly on an umbilical, but remember for every right hand circuit do a left hand circuit. lol.

I am not in a position to comment on them packs. What I would say though is they are rated at 30C continuous but only 35C burst. This is not good. Most other packs show the burst current almost double the continuous. These packs may be very cheap for a reason!

You do know it takes more power to hover than it does to fly circuits?

lol, still not going to be 35c hovering though.

No your right, I just wonder how many cycles those packs will last for. Incredible they are not much larger than other manufacturers 21/2200 packs.

Oh right. I just do casual hovering and circuits, calm flying.
So how do you change the gear ratio? Should you use a motor pinion with more or fewer teeth for more flight time?

Use a motor pinion with fewer teeth. I think most people use a 13 tooth pinion on the t-rex with the standard 430 motor. Just try a 12 then 11 and even a 10 tooth pinion and see how you get on. As the headspeed drops so the responsiveness will also be affected. It will take the model a little longer to respond to cyclic inputs.
