anybody can be an Arsehole, it takes real commitment, dedication and a whole lot of effort to be nice.
Well, I guess Webra have to use all their old Methanol Webra 91's for something, I wonder if they've sorted out the pitting problem on the bore ?
Not sure about the pitting but lets face it most nitro engines have there own little problems, like the OS bearings for one.
Webra 91 Gasser
Can someone try and explain why it wouldn’t need muffler pressure if the regulator isn’t supplied and fitted, does the crab suck the fuel in?
the OS bearing wasnt a bearing thing it was a lean midrange beating the hell out of the bearing.
i get about 15 gallons out of mine now which is just under 30hrs. not bad for a high performance motor running at a bit over 17000rpm.

I’m new to this hobby so I’m no expert but I think 30hrs is disgusting, if my Z3 did that I think it would be BMW replacing them and not me.
It seems to be accepted when you buy an OS that it wont be long before you have to replace the bearings, well I’ve looked on the box and in the instructions but no were does it warn me that I will need to shell out for new bearings before it’s 12 months warranty is up.
If you only get 30 hrs how many times did you send it back for a free repair in the first 12 months?
30hrs is a fair bit... approx 25 gallons. If you did a gallon every 2 weeks it would last a year.
when you change the bearings it costs less than 10ukp (unless you use OS parts) and takes about an hour.
a 50 is 8.17cc and produces 1.9bhp... i think thats 230bhp per litre. Not bad for what is a very small motor.
remember that with your car your not running it at max rpm all the time (no comments on my driving please!) I have done a track day or 3 in a car and 5 laps of castle coombe circuit in wiltshire at racing speeds will have any road car overheating the oil, water, brakes etc.
30hrs doesnt sound a lot until but Most people go flying once a week and do 3-4 flights which is less than an hours flight time.

Helicopter pilots, especially 3D'ers, expect to get every ounce of power out of these little engines. . . . . . . there's a price to pay for that. In the case of OS engines, that seems to be rear bearings.
My reference to the Webra 91 pitting issue, is that many pilots raised this as a concern when they first hit the market, to be told by the manufacturer and the UK importer, that they were "designed" like that to retain oil !. . . . . .most Webra 91's are now resigned to the bin, or act as paperweights on peoples desks. They produced good power in the beginning, but that didn't last long. I can't actually remember anyone that still uses (or sells) them Anyone ?
Now you’ve explained I understand that something has to give running these engines flat out most of the time, I suppose renewing the bearings is a small price to pay, the only thing worrying me is knowing when the bearings are on there way out so I can replace them before more damage is done, I’ve already ruined one C Spec

Sounds like the We bra Gasser might be a lemon, I hope not.
When the engine starts rattling at idle and generally sounding like a bag of nails, it's time to inspect the rear bearing, and to do so, you MUST remove the crankshaft and feel it with your finger, if you rely on spinning it by hand it can feel OK, when in fact the bearing is knackered.
Gasser engines are not really suitable for hard 3D (when was the last time you saw a serious 3D pilot using a gasser ?), because they don't have the same power to weight as the equavalent Methanol engine. And here I'm taking about engines specifically designed to be gassers, rather than a methanol engine converted to petrol, how good can a conversion be ?. I might be wrong, and I've never seen one running, therefore make your own decision, but do it with your eyes open
my understanding is that petrol is a harsher burn than methanol? if thats right then the bearings will last less time in this webra than a conventional glow motor.
my experience of webra and certain suppliers is that they say that things will work fine or wont be a problem but when issues do arrise (and the do, all the time) they simply tell you that their engines run great.
on talking to a lot of other old webra owners and ex owners it does seem that if you get a good one they rock. if you dont they suck.
weston suffers equally annoying issues.

I think if I had gone to the trouble of stripping the engine down then the bearings must have been suspect so I would rather just replace the bearing to be on the safe side, my 90 has a crack with it but no rattles so I hope I will be able to tell when they need replacing now.
I thought the webra 91 was a new engine and not a conversion; well I’ve made my bed as they say.
I won’t be doing any 3D for a few years and that’s why I ordered the gasser, plenty of cheap flying time.
Gasser engines just make flying cheaper. Also they can 3D but not just as
rapid as the Nitro engines. So if your 3D style is all out zip,zip fast moves that you can hardly see then nitro. If your doing 3D moves smoother and slower then the Gasser is Fine.
I have seen the Video of the Pred Gasser being let loose and anyone that says a Gasser cannot 3D hasn't seen the video. Its bloody nuts.
For me a Gasser 90 isnt a bad thing means Big scale got cheaper, Flying
Big models Cheaper regardless.
But in the end I suspect a nitro is going to be the choice for 3D.
I'm glad someone has made some positive points about Gasser's
OK so the webra gasser is untested but someone has to try it.
I now have two of these engines coming early next week, I was going to cancel one when I got notice of ether one shipping but the second took me buy surprise and shipped it before I had chance to cancel the order.
I planed to fit one in my 90 se but now I’m thinking about fitting it in a 60, what do you think 90 or 60.
