  • How did this fly ???

Checked it over thoroughly (I thought) - and it flew better than ever doing hovers tail-in, sides-in, nose-in for 8 minutes - best it has ever flown.

    How ???

wow thats impressive i bent a mainshaft doing that once. effectively the lift is still produced by the pitch of the blades. not quite sure why it flew better

How bizarre!!! Try putting the other one on backwards and see what happens... It might be even better still! You might just have re-invented the helicopter blade or discovered a new phenomenon in physics...

        F@*k, that sounded bad...

Thanks everyone. I last flew it on Sunday and only noticed the reversed blade tonight. I'm going to have to video this at the weekend - I'm still practicing hovering in the garden and it was just so much more stable than normal - even the tracking which can get out of sync very easily was spot on.

I put my paddles on the wrong way last time I built the head, so as the paddles weren't backwards it had to be one of the blades...

I'm going to triple check mine when I fit them tomorrow though...

Strange but highly intriguing in the same sentence, you've gotta get some vid' of this mate, but for it to improve your flying is most interesting.

I've accidentally placed the Tail Rota's the wrong way round a few times which bites you as soon as the throttle powers up, but never anything like this?

Since I posted this I have been questioning myself have I touched the blades since I flew it? And no I haven't. On Sunday all I noticed was the heli took off a bit earlier, just below half throttle instead of just over, and the head speed definitely sounded slower at take off. Then I tried my normal hovering practice and it just seemed so much more stable. I actually flew a complete battery hovering in different attitudes which I've only done with it once before without a couple of landings, hence the trainer u/c as the lawn's a bit long. Spooky.

Why not reverse both blades and see how she flies? Try this at your own risk though!

One question - perhaps the blades were fitted the wrong way from day one?
