I should add that the nearest club to me said that membership for "seniors" is closed but juniors are welcome to join. I wasn't quite 70 when I was told that, but the point was obvious.

Well I think that's disgusting, except in very specific circumstances.

If that really is their official policy, then I can't seen why they would mind having their name mentioned. Have you tried asking the BMFA what their policy is about such blatant ageism?
