Learning 3D

Hi Guys

How long did it take you to learn 3D been praticing on the sim for a few weeks now. but still haven't manage the realy thing,did you get put off by the crashes and the repair bill

You learn a move and continue to develop and improve it. You never stop learning. So in answer to your question no-one has actually learnt 3D as we are all still learning.

If you want a goal though it took Duncan Osborn about 5 years to go from beginner to 3D Masters champion in 2005.

TBH Steve if you get your act together on the sim crashes are very in-frequent.

Always attempt new moves at a good height then when things go wrong you have some space to save it.

Practice low and its gonna cost you.

A very good friend of mine (Rob Turnbull) gave me some solid advise last year.

Practice on the sim until you can successfully do the move 10 ex 10 everytime, Then try it in the field for real.

If you can only do it 8 ex 10 you have a 20% chance of crashing.

Not good eh.

Dont know if this will help but....
I rarely use a sim, so I attempt it fairly high. I usually crash on the first few attempts but i have 2 extra helis to get parts from. Alot cheaper than buying parts.
I usually try these things when there is alot of fluffy snow on the ground in the winter, or over a hay field in the summer. I find the sims just dont work for me. Once you can successfully do it, then practice, practice, and practice again so it becomes natural to you. You'll always crash sooner or later. Laugh it off, and get the heli back up there. Its probably the best hobby to actually see yourself improve the more you practice. Everyone is right though when they say...the learning never ends. Every time you crash, you get to learn about how each part works that you replace. Eventually you will beable to assemble your heli blind-folded!
