  • I just broke my Blade CX3 trying to fix it - Help Needed

    Hi,

After a crash I stripped a tooth or 2 off the bottom blade gear on my Blade CX3, so I bought the replacement that comes already attached to the outer shaft. Obviously I was told that "you just need to strip the stuff off the shaft", which I did, but I couldn't get the shaft out without a bit of 'assistance' from my mate Brute (Force)...

The shaft I'm removing has bearings attached to it, one of which I've now broken (I'll buy a new one on Monday), so does anyone know how you're supposed to get the bearings off the shaft without smashing them with pliers?

Should I just buy new bearings all round? The retaining collar also was impossible to remove with the retaining screw removed and sctratched the heck out of the old outer shaft in removal.

Is this normal for something supposedly so simple to be so hard?

Any advice on how to get airborne again much appreciated!

    Cheers,

    Huskyboy

Hehehehe! The bearings can be pretty verminous to get off the shaft, especially if it has burrs from the hub screws, or you try to slide the bearing over a bend. Try cutting the bent outer shaft off just above the retaining collar, deburr the end nicely, and you should slide the collar off easier, then lightly tap the shaft through the bearings with a close fitting drift. Any attempt to butcher it will damage something, so just take your time. Hope that makes sense!

TBH, if you may have damaged (bent) the shaft, you are as well replacing the bearing as well - they are not that dear.

I've trashed one bearing, so there's definitely one I'll have to get! I've absolutely no idea how I'm going to get the bearing out of the centre of bottom gear though, where the inner shaft goes through it, as there's nothing to get any purchase on without physically cutting the bottom gear in to pieces... which is an option I suppose...

The old shaft was straight, but there was a burr on the inside of the retaining collar which made it hard to get off. I guess I'll be buying some bearings tomorrow then!
