i know a few people who use a 3s to run a sullivan, i did for a little while but found that the cold weather and starting a 90 was sometimes a little too much to ask. But if it is kept warm, i.e not left out on a table all day at the field then it was fine. But, as i say, it was only the extreme cold of this winter that caused problems.. as the weather warms up, i dare say you would have no problems.

As a seasond user of the Dynatron I would like to add an important piece of advise here.

I was using a 6s Lipo to power mine and yes it would start a lorry.

Now starting the OS91 HZ wasnt a problem but beware the total power of the starter on 6s especially when cold can rip the one way bearing in the clutch into pieces which it did with mine.

With that sort of power on a cold engine something has to give, I could hear the bearing screaming for mercy as it failed to bite as the starter ripped the starter shaft round.

Advise from Fastlads was to step down to a 4s Lipo and try not to rip the engine apart with so much power.

As usual they were correct, No more one way bearing trouble, Bites first time and starts first time now.

It could have been the pink tubing you have though as to why it had problems lol

I use a 4S 3200 pack on my Dynatron which works well - but the cold doesn't help.
I will pop a 5S on there if necessary, but prefer the 4S for peace of mind - as per Tims post!

          Cheers,

3S will be plenty to start a 50 with.
You may have to go up a cell for a 90.

Hi Richard the way you keep shorting the clips have ever thought of something safer to start your Heli like maybe a pull start or a lawn mower

I never intend to get a heli bigger than a 50. In order to make sure of that I'm trying not to have a go flying any bigger helis, not even on a sim - though I did already have a quick go with a millenium...
On my cheapie sexond hand starter that isn't a sullivan I have been using two 1800 lipos connected in parallel (11.1v). These are well used and are not good enough to lift my 450 anymore. Your 3 cell pack should outperform this pair easily. There is no problem with them running down even when I do pleanty of startts and burn a gallon in one session - never put more than 20% back into them in fact.
They worked great all summer but in this cold weather they struggle to turn my newer motor.
I've got some old 1500 2 cell packs made into a 4s1500 to try next time out.
While its cold I've taken my battery drill along to give the motor a turn if the starter struggles.
I'm still not a believer in over investing in ancillery equipment.

                        I'm using a dynatron Richard
                        cracking bit of kit,
i've converted mine to run on makita 18v 3.0A li-ion drill batteries.
As I already had a spare battery with my drill ,so was halfway there.
Also it's lighter and smaller than using the MA g10 mount with ni-xx/lipo combo
                        like said buy once,buy right
                        cheers
