Sullivan starters

Hi all

My girlfriend is going to give me some money towards a sullivan starter for valentines day bless her

Looked on my LHS site and there are two. One is the dynatron and the other is a deluxe hi-torque. Now I have played with Busterboys dynatron and its awesome. You could probably start an artic truck with that thing but to save some pennies as I have already bought a new aerial and an outrage 5000mah rx pack this week, would the hi-torque starter be good for an align 50 hyper engine?


Also, if wanting to use lipo's for it, would a 1800mah 3cell lipo be any good to use with it as I have a couple of these doing nothing at the moment. I hate using my 12v battery to power my current starter (which is crap) as the clips end up sliding together and sparks fly lol.

I use a Dynatron to start my Align Hyper 50 - well worth the expense, its an awesome bit of kit.

Got a hi-torque myself.
Turns both the 50 and my YS91SR over no probs.
Fitted with FP 2500 Lite LiPo.
Cracking piece of kit and lasts forever.
They occasional come up on e-bay or here secondhand.

I Also Use A Sullivan Dynatron,
run on 6 cell lipo its Brill ,Will Turn Over All Engines YS And All OS 90 Size Engines,If You Are Going To Invest I Would Say Get It Right First Time And Pay The Extra For The Sullivan Dynatron, you will never need to upgrade

Ive got the dynatron and I got the mounting plate from a finer edge manufacturing, which I can mount Makita or in my case makita copy lipos on, it makes a fantastic starter but on the pricy side, however I would fully agree with pete buy it right first time.

I also use a dynatron, turns my 50's easy and my os91 pumped no probs at all.

I use a Dynatron with a 6 Cell 22.2v 4000 lipo. That would start a Seaking!!

I looked at the Finer Edge mounting plate - but the Makita batteries are a bit pricey, how are the copies?

I always worry that increasing the power to start engines that don't want to turn over is going to break something..... proper techniques re not letting the engine flood seem to me the best way forward - having said that I do use 14 2000mAh Nicads on my starter........

Yes they are. The starter is expensive enough, infact I nearly didnt bother, although I had already bought the mounting plate which at the time was only £24 inc the carrage. which I thought a bargain, but when I looked at the prices and saw that the makita lipos were about £105 each I gave the idea up for awhile.

Eventually I found some coppies on fleabay for £60 per pair, so I bought them plus £40 for a charger, again off fleabay. and I was away, as I said its an expensive starter but its really handy and would also start a seaking.

oh and a bit of advice dont use a 36V drill cos you can sheer the started shaft, well at least mine did LOL

yep, i've heard that 6s lipo on a sullivan is capable of doing damage as well. Never heard of anyone actually doing damage though. Maybe someone else has and can let the rest of us know, but I run mine on 5s and that will start anything that gets stuck on the end of it.. lol

Will the dynatron work on a 3 cell lipo ok or can I somehow connect 2 x 3cell lipos together to make a 6 cell?
