  • lipos in transmitters

I have a JR 2720 tranny and have a outrage 3s1p lipo. A few guys at my club said that its not safe to use lipo in any transmitter as the voltage is to high. Is this true??

    Cheers Darryl

i heard its coz the voltage of the battery exceeds the 12v before it settles down to a normal voltage, but on the same thread i read ppl got on ok with them, personally i use rechargable aa batts but if the lipo is a good choice i will be changing to that when my dx6 turns up

I've been using it in the tranny for about 6 weeks now with no bother... it does show 12.5v on the display though.

I have friends who have been using them for atleast a yr & a half with no bother. I just wouldn't like to shoot my heli down over the head of a battery

I did go into this a while back. You should be ok in the Winter outdoors. It depends on the transmitter electronics and wether it is designed for lipo or not. Some manufacturers say it's a problem.

I have a 3s FP lipo in my DX7, it is designed for the tranny. the voltage does read high as you say, but that seems to be fine. I bought the whole package second hand so it was obviously OK before that as well.

The only way to make the battery meter on the DX7 fill right up is to use a 3 cell lipo, whether this means you can use them or not is a different matter.

The JR DSX9 manual states, that under no circumstances should you use a 3 cell lipo in it.

If something goes wrong and you have to send it back, they will know and your warranty may well be void, even if it is totally unrelated to battery voltage.

Is it really that inconvenient to use the battery that comes with the Tx?
