Hi Mate,
first question you asked is for the gyro mate heading lock and normal modes,
before you start ensure the motor is disconnected or throttle hold activated otherwise it bite your fingers,
if you look over at helifreak and down load the videos on how to setup pitch curves for a trex450 is the same principle but different heliIf You Cant Dazzle' Em With Brilliance, Baffle' Em With emmmm you know the rest

Heading lock makes no difference to your pitch setup - thats gyro...
Put the pitch stick in the middle and set zero degrees mechanically at that point.

Two schools of thought, one is hover at mid-stick and the more popular is hover just above mid-stick, with mid-stick being zero pitch.
Before you play with setting up the pitch, make sure you have disconnected your motor.
Set your stick (throttle) at the mid-point and check the pitch. It should be zero, then check the full and low settings and post them on here

Jason,
Completely true!
I always mechanically setup heli's with zero degrees at mid stick, then use the Tx to adjust to a midstick hover (in pitch curves) if that's what's wanted by the person doing the flying
Just the way I'm used to doing it

you can get a 4.8 volt battery and plug it in the RX in the heli so not using the lipo ..that way you can mess about with the electronics without starting the motor .. or unscrew the 2 screws on top of the motor and drop it out the airframe ... doing it this way is a little tricky as they not the easiest of motors to put back

The one connected to the rod up the middle of the mainshaft which in turn adjusts the collective pitch?
Yes - need to move up as you increase throttle. Hit the reverse switch for channel 6 if it's moving the wrong way.
