Just to stir up the eventful hornets nest. Can someone please explain why just before Xmas the price of a twister 3d storm was appx. £138 and has now shot up to £158. In fact on the Perkins site they are nearly £190.

I was prepared to buy one of these if my son ever pranged his Mini Pred (which he has now done). Because he has a decent Tx on 35 (Futaba Super 8) I'd dismissed the Blade 400 package.

However on looking around the UK sites prices seem to be creeping up, why then on a visit to PC world/ Currys , PC/TVs' etc. prices are dropping like bricks and they're manufactured in the same place as our helicopters.

Obviously I'm missing the plot somewhere. Son will have to wait for new heli.

    Cheers

    Peter

It's the exchange rate that's knackered us all - the reason for the massive drops in TV prices were the ludicrous mark-ups by Currys etc that now they're shedding just to pay the rent.

Typically the retail trade works on 30% gross margin, with the exception being furniture shops that seem to work on a much larger figure. It's not hard to see why if you take your own cirumstances with what you earn and what you spend each month and then on top of that the actual cost of running the shop.

White goods and televisions maybe moving down peoples want/need list and so retailers will do what they can to increase sales. I think there is a cartel of all electrical outlets as the price always looks the same wherever I go within just a few pounds.

As for the exchange rate, if that were the case then why haven't most electrical goods gone up as they are made in the far east the same as model helicopter?

If you read through the threads you'll see a lot of people saying everything will go up 30% etc etc.

The knock on is coming from higher exchange rates as everyone is saying

We're having a hell of a time deciding where to go on Holiday this year as going back to the USA will cost about the same to get there but our money is worth significantly less once we're there.

Yea been a few times myself and was getting from 1.90 to 1.78 dollars to the pound now not so good

Europe is as bad 1 Euro = 1 pound or close as dam it.

Although you noticed Virgin has taken over Travel City who offered cheap USA stays... might be worth a look even though the pound is still weak its not a total wipe out.

Sorry Peter for hijacking your thread! - I think the best answer is that there's a significant difference in the exchange rates and as most far eastern traders seem to prefer the US dollar, we're not getting anywhere near as much for our money. Case in point was the BLS251 servo I got last summer from HK for £58 - in the UK they're up to over £100 now.

Strange that the modelling industry increases prices during a recession, when everyone else reduces ! Maybe they think they're immune ?

Why does it always persist down at weekends ?

Or maybe it's because they haven't got a choice.
Buy at price A, sell at price B - which is Price A plus your markup to allow you to stay in business.

The pounds is performing very badly yet people seem keen to blame everything else instead?

                          Oddness
                          Cheers,

Apologise for leaving the thread without any response from me (I was called away to fix a blasted Mini Pred. Thankyou Midland heli's for the parts)

I realize that the pound has taken a hit against the dollar & therefore HK/China prices may now not be favourable. In fact checking on a Futaba servo it has certainly increased.

What I did not properly put accross was the fact that the 3D Storm was available at £138, yet in the spate of 2 weeks it had increased £20.

Now I can't believe the distributor had a new shipment in and therefore had to increase the price. The price increase must have been on goods already sitting on shelves.
I can't see a LHS just increasing it's prices on goods on the shelf (unless Im totally niave) so who instigated the increase.
As janek said "strange to increase prices"

Well the Mini pred cost £7 to fix, so the 3D storm will have to wait. I'll wait for a price drop or a good 2nd hand Blade

                              Cheers
