  • Phoenix multiplayer Poll

    Hi guys,
got a poll here regarding phoenix...
we are toying with the idea of implementing something into the website which will let users know if members are on phoenix rc sim multiplayer. ie if they have a session advertised or they are currently in one. It has come to our attention due to the increased numbers of threads/posts regarding Phoenix and users advertising their sessions. This is all perfectly fine but IMO these stay in the phoenix section of the forum and are never read again. Basically a waste of webspace you could say. I was thinking of some sort of flag system where members could maybe manually put up when they have a session up or they are in one. Maybe a P flag or some sort of symbol related to phoenix which would appear beside there name in the online users list? Please vote and let us know what you think please. If you have any ideas about which way it could be implemented then please do share your general thoughts? If you vote no then please let us know why you think it is a bad idea?
    Thanks

Just a thought mate, but could creating a new section regarding live online sessions with Phoenix keep it nice and tidy, with a rule that any session advertised will be deleted within a 24 hour period.

    Just an Idea bud.

      Lee,

I think this is a good idea as I only ever see the session threads after the session has been and gone...

Although my tinternet speed is not really up to it...

Would make sense. I'm kind of sick of seeing loads of "session" threads popping up every evening

Is everyone going to keep to that rule though? And what happens if they just plain forget? Then its left up to us guys to delete them which fair enough is part of a moderators job but... my whole point here is so that we make this as choreless as possible. I mean i could quite easily go through the whole phoenix section right now and delete them but then maybe there were comments made within the threads that people may want to still reference. Of course that would be the easiest thing to do Wayne but what about new members that come on to the site? They may just post their sessions up regardless and not knowing about any 24 hour rule or anything.

          Cheers

sounds like a good idea, if not a little hard to setup.

will be loading up phoenix tonight for the first time, not sure if it will run on my laptop but i'll give it ago.

Mine works just fine now i opened up the ports on the router and i was going mental the other week their with it. Wouldnt let me join anything then. I since re-opened up my forwarding ports and cycled the router and its fine now. I also think Phoenix have been doing a little fiddling. They'll have another update out soon no guess. Anyways back to the topic... shouldnt be too hard to implement especially if we have a manual way of doing it. ie where the member flags it thereselves.

Ports open router cycled and it's still hit and miss.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand, how will this flag method work if the session is password protected?

my idea would be a manual flag that you will put up yourself and take off yourself basically. Will just simply let people know your on phoenix online in general whether hosting a session or just active in one. Then you could see whos flying and that would be good if you like to fly with certain members on here. It doesnt matter about phoenix issues here thats their problem so dont vote No just because you cant get online with it. What we would like to know is if members think its a good idea and would they use it which ever way its implemented into the website?

apart from being laggy, I've always managed to get on to sessions which had spaces available...

Good idea re the flag. Would an alternative be to have a chat room called "Phoenix" and people log in to that if they are going online? The other chat rooms (ie fight club etc) have never been used as far as I have seen.

yes but then you would have to log into the chat room and alot dont use it. The idea of the flag would be so that you could quickly browse down the online users list on the homepage. If you add a person as a buddy you will notice they come up in this list with a little '+' sign near their name. Basically to show you there your buddy when your quickly browsing the list. Now if a 'P' or something like it could be added beside that name then you could browse the online users list on the homepage and instantly see whos on phoenix. It was put to me yesterday that people are sick of seeing threads saying 'Phoenix Session up'. This is one way of curing that and saving some space because those threads will 99% of the time never be read ever again. Anyways dont want to influence ya too much, i would like to see ideas from you?

                        Cheers

thats what i was thinking balders..

similar to the box that tells you who's in the chat room...

just have a box on the home page that the users can click a box to say there in session and have your name held there for 2 hours unless you take it off yourself before the 2 hours..

a digital notice board type thing then you could also have it so you can type a password in as a note next to your name

just i thought.. i'm rubbish at explaining things tho lol

                          cheers

Blimey we dont get that many phoenix session threads come up do we?
Whatever way we go with this you need to be able to post a password on here if you only want to fly with RCHA members other wise the session fills up with randoms pretty quickly, not that I have anything against flying with non RCHA members but it is nice to sometimes fly with just the lads on here.
Perhaps make it so that the Phoenix session threads don't show up in the new posts / today's posts sections so people who want to read them have to actively go into the Phoenix threads section of the site?

Why not create a forum for Pheonix activity that you have to subscribe to before you can see it.

That way, if you're interested in sessions, then you will undoubtedly subscribe to the forum and then automatically see the posts. If you're not interested, then you won't subscribe, and therefore the list of active threads that you can see on the home page simply won't include all the daily new threads that say 'I'm starting a Pheonix session, come play with me', followed by people grissling because they can't log in or it doesn't work.
