  • Scale Helis, what to get ??

Ok chaps, its a mine field for a noob so im taking the easy way out and asking you lot !!

I think once I know what im doing I will make the move to scale so what can you all sugest.

I would like the model to be a fair size, for outdoor. Kit form or RTF, Electric.

Im not sure of all the names etc but i like the military look, something like the mash chopper with the trelis boom or similar.

What do you guys recon. I dont mind paying good money for a good quality model .

Any chance of adding pics or links etc that would be a big help in chosing.

    Thanks all

if you want electric and a good size a trex 600e and md500 fuse

if you want the "mash " look you will have to look at hirobo i think!

Go look on the Vario web site there are a lot of (very expensive) options there....

I have a Hirobo Chinoook its a 50 size and will rush you a tad over 2K.... but it a great model.

Okay you want something that looks good easy to build and set up and fly right ?

Hirbo Lama get the 30 size version its just droped in price a bit.

Get an OS 32 for it and a decent HH Gyro put spektrum servos in it and a 2.4ghz receiver so theres no aerail lead showing...

Look in the Hirbo section on here and you'll see mine

Because its based on shuttle mechaincs there easy to fly and solid enough

Or you could enter the hornets nest and put a wanted AD on the BMFA site for a scle helicopter and see what gets offered... People often put non A1 kit into scale so watch out for non ideal stuff in them...

Here's my Hughes 500. It's the HeliArtist fuselage (from FastLads) wrapped around Trex 450S mechanics. I did uprate the motor though (to the Align XL).

                  IMG_2669.JPGIMG_2677.JPGIMG_2679.JPG

There's a huge thread on how to do this conversion over on HeliFreak:

                  http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=54979

It's probably your lowest cost entry into scale.

There are several other fuselages that will fit the 450 mechanics.

Electric sounds more scale than Nitro too but the 450 size does get a bit limiting eventually.

Even so, there is quite a lot of scope here (swap tail rotor to the other side, 4 blade tail, 5 blade flybarless head - I have already fitted anti-collision strobes and navigation lights - the rest is on my project list)
