  • Fingers and Thumbs

    Hi Guys

Just a quick one to ask how you guys learnt to fly

I am just learning to fly in the sim and i cant make my mind up if i am more comfortable using either fingers and thumbs or just thumbs on my Tranny.

somtimes i am more smooth and controlled with Fingers and thumbs and somtimes i am more controlled and smooth with just Thumbs

Did any of you go through this when learning or is it one of those things that you just grow with.

Is there any other way to help decide which to use?

What is the most popular flying style Thumbs or Fingers and thumbs??

    Thanks for any responses

    Ben

Started flying fixed wing many moons ago and used thumbs on only - When I started with Heli's it became natural to use finger and thumbs in conjunction with a neck strap.

      Hi
I fly fixed wing but trying to give them up as flying Helis and planes
screws me up a bit and to be good with one I must drop the other.

so planes gone and I still fly thumbs only....

Tryed fingers and thumbs made a total mess of it!

      Thumbs here all thumbs......

        I heard this somewhere before,
Tape a pen to your thumb and write your name, then hold the pen with finger and thumb and do the same.
        Which looks the best?

          Cheers guys

I used to race RC cars a lot which is all thumbs so i sometimes prefer it

However i think i may be leaning towards Fingers and thumbs with a neck strap Like G-Dave

My handwritting is dreadfull anyway i write so i wont even bother to try that test!!

          Thanks guys

I fly planes and helis to very different styles.

Planes - thumbs only with a neck strap and short sticks.

Helis - fingers and thumbs with a tranny tray to support my hands and longer sticks.

            How confusing is that????

All down to personal preference I think, I use thumbs & fingers as this seems to be the most accurate for my style but it will differ from person to person, if we all drove a car the same way or ate the same look at the mess that would cause

Perhaps investing in a tray or at least a neck strap to take the weight of the TX off your hands would be a good idea and remember that there isn't a particular way you should adopt, just the one that you find most comfortable.

                Cheers.
