  • Flying. Where were you last year???

In the sense how far has your flying come in a year, What have you learned in the last 12 month.

Some people pick it up quite easy, Some take more time!!!

Me. This time last year I was just past the hovering tail in and progressing with figure 8's.

Now. Had some crashes... Scrap that....... Had lots of crashes and have definately learned to practice all new stuff at a higher altitude giving myself some sky to recover from mistakes made while "attempting" new manouvres.

Crashes are a lot less frequent and I can have lots of fun learning new stuff and still bring the helis home in one piece..

Reaching my goal is a long way in the distance and that is what makes this hobby so addictive.

I'm miles away from my goal but determined to hammer away on the sim and in the field getting better every flight.

Can't remember Tim where I was last year in regards to flying ... As for this year it was about middle of it that it suddenly clicked and went to circuits and stuff .. Not really flown alot as of late as its been wierd sky or too bitter for it to be n e fun so I sorta at a crossroads with my flying lol... As for progressing .. As long as I enjoy it I dont really have to push myself that hard as all I always wanted to do was just fly circuits and can do that and am happy in what i do hehe .... I like watching 3d but have no real interest in doing it myself

This time last year I didn't know what a heli was!
At the filed I am doing inverted circuits, backwards flight, crude rainbows, normal sports flying.
Sim I am doing backwards inverted, inverted autos, piros and trying to learn piro flips.
So come on a bit I suppose

i started flying planks about this time last year, and i got the young best flyer in the club. (im the only one i think he he) I can do rolls loops and show up all the oap's in the club. When i go to the field i go up about 5 times and dont normaly have much of a rest between flights!!! All the others go, fly once, and then sit there talking!!!
Now i want to fly a heli so i bought a zoom crashed it now need a part and midlands helis dont open till tomorow!!!!

A little further on, but not much.

Been a strange year weatherwise & the availability of stick-time, but I guess that's only an excuse.!

So for this year - application, stick-time, challenge the next hurdle and hopefully progress to smooth circuits and some sport flying.

          Happy New (Heli) Year all.

This time last year just done my BMFA "A" certificate, progressed to nose in hovering, left and right circuits, figure of eights both ways, generally moving towards BMFA "B" certificate. Loops OK'ish, roles if'y, piouettes, general sport flying good. My main progression this year has been understandiing more about the sport of Helicopter flying by attending the many fly-ins and meeting new people. Got some cracking advise and encouragement throughout the year from these events. Saw another side to the sport at the 3D clubman event now thats flying! I'm not aiming for 3D manouvers at the moment but no doubt this will come in time. I've progressed from being a novice at our club to assisting others learn to fly in 12 months, this I do enjoy. You could call it the blind leading the blind but my first victim is nearly ready for his BMFA "A" Cert (putting my bit back in so to speak). Getting better with heli set ups and TX setup as well. Always a good thing when you change someting or the inevitable happens...

Been a bit slow in places this year but had some good plus's

Took my 'B' and passed it...

Got a Helicopter now that I really like to fly and tracks spot on. wouldn't swap it for any other machine.

Failed to learn to auto and backwards flight which were 2 aims I missed in 2008.

Not into the 3D scene as much as other people but would like to learn a few tricks so my 2009 list is just building:

              1. auto learn to do it (I can do it 9/10 times on the sim)

              2. Learn to fly backwards

              3. Learn Inverted

              4. some 3D tricks....

              5. Might go for club examiner as we don't have one....

Heli's were new to me this year when I got a Blade CX2 in September. Have gone from finding it impossible to fly, to losing the heli in the garden when it got away from me, to where I am now. I am able to fly whole batteries in the lounge without landing, crashing, or breaking a blade, completing circuits and crude figure 8's as I go. I found 1 of the best ways to learn to control it was to put a place mat on the floor and to practice hovering in all directions, fly off for a bit and then hover, and land on the place mat as close as poss. Seemed to work as well. I got Phoenix for Xmas and will be practising with a view to getting a Blade 400 in June for my birthday.

                Cheers

HAdn't even really thought about helis this time last year. Saw one at a show (Thanks Rob!) but didn't really think I'd get one.

August this year changed all that... just added up the credit card bills so far...EEEEK!!!

Still, great fun - just starting lazy 8's - looking forward to flying and improving my skills in better weather in 2009...

As Martin (RCSlopeSoarer) said yesterday - flying in this weather is like Phoenix whilst sitting in the fridge!!

All the best to all at RCHA for 2009!

I had a small 3channel heli and a 2 channel IR heli, hadn't yet bought my first 4ch coax. Now I'm hovering my B400 in a space not much bigger than a postage stamp and practicing on idle up and slowly flying up and down said space (my garden).

didnt even know bout helis till bout feb/march, had my contra for bout a week, then i was throwing it around so much i cld get the blades to smash into eachother, then bought a blade 400, took a while to get used to it, mastered hovering in bout 3weeks, then was flying sketchy circuits, then loops, then it looked like i was gonna snap the heli when i started to try some 3d, a tic toc and the boom looked like it was gonna snap!!!! lol!!! now ive out grown my 401gyro and hav to update my gyros on 2helis, my trex500 and my outrage g5, am trying to get my head round piro control now, sim work is great, can do just bought everything except a pie dish and piro figure 8s, even nailed the chaos!!!! lol!!! so i thin ive came along alright really!!! next year is gonnabethe year i want to go for it!!!!!!

For me this time last year I'd just got my trex 450 and was stuck in the hover, since then I've joined an ace club and with their support passed my A, I'm now looping, rolling and generally screaming around the sky. For 2009 I want to nail auto's as I can do them all day long on the sim as well as getting my B and having a play with backwards and inverted flight.

I think 2009 will be the year I get shut of my planks too, leave a bit more room in the garage for something else, who knows what though...

Putting it short... this time last year i was doing circuits, flips and loops. I have progressed onto rolls and staying inverted more. Its been a weird year 2008 for me. Working 7 days a week and none the next, on and off all the time. Therefore i just havent put the hours in to be honest. Spent more time on the forum if anything else. Hoping to change that in 2009. Would like to burn as much fuel as i possibly can this coming year.

                            Cheers
