  • Where to get second-hand frame/Gearbox?

    Hi guys and gals,
I'm in the middle of a custom (electric twin-rotor) build, and need some way of supporting a motor and gears.

I'm thinking at the moment that the main frame (two of) would be ideal once cut down. I also need the gears themselves.

Can anyone suggest good (cheap) ways of getting these pieces (which will need to be a matching pair)?

I've got a couple of Walkera 180L motors as seen at http://happitoy.com/book.asp?id=393

Any suggestions are very much appreciated...

thats a pretty indepth project you have got there.

your best bet is going to be to use the mainshafts/gears out of another heli. then work out a way to join them together.

I had thought of using the tail drive mechanism but i dont think many would be up to the power output.

It is quite in depth, but it is the stage I enjoy more atm!

I've been looking for cheap/second-hand helis and parts to scavenge, but think I may have to make stuff from scratch.

        Thanks for your reply, j

the MS composit twin rotor heli has some nice ideas. worth taking a look at.

            Thanks.

I had already seen http://rcmi24v.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/ch46_index.htm (where the heli is re-fit into a airfix-style scale shell), but hadn't looked for more detail about the original - will do so now.

My heli will be fixed-pitch with a different control mechanism, though I have to admit that I'm not confident it'll even fly!

without thinking about it properly I am not sure... but i dont think FP will work. For a start you wouldnt be able to mesh the blades like the 46 does.

Finding reverse direction FP blades isnt going to be easy either.

There are lot's of reasons this probably won't work, but I want to have tried.

I was planning on using regular blades, and setting the angle manually.
Current design has two separate motors so meshing isn't an option anyway!

with a CP heli using symetrical blades you can just flip them upside down for reverse direction which you need to counter the torque. FP blades are cambered so this isnt an option.
