advice please

hi all, what would be a next step up from a cx for a 14 year old hes the son of a work colleague i have allready mentioned a good sim and a club ,i was thinking on the lines of a 4g3 or similar

I'd have thought a Blade 400 or a Twister Storm 3D...........I would'nt go down the Walkera 4G3 route as I would have thought he needs a bit more stability and out door flying experience......plus Mum would'nt want the house ruined, if you know what I mean....

I would recommend a esky belt cp if he is on a budget i have flown my mates and its a good heli for the money if the lad (his perants) have a bigger bugdet then the blade 400 seems the next way foward but i believe these are very twtchy from the box but there is loads of threads on here about softening the blade down hope this helps

hi eddie, for a 14yr old to go from a cx to 400 i think he would have to join a club first and spend lots of time on the sim the patients of youth come to mind i'll have to ask the father how much he's committed and how much money he is prepared to spend and tell him to double it at least , i haven't looked at the 3d storm i'll check it out and put it on my list

Century Mini Pred did it for me. Similar build to the Belt CP from what I can see but comes with a HH Gyro rather than a rate so a bit easier to get to grips with. Comes with a training undercarriage too.

I moved from a contra medevac after 45 batteries in the house and the garage to a Honey Bee FP for around £70. Very forgiving to learn on, survives awful crashes intact and cheap as chips to fix. It does really need space like a garage though ( if you're a slow learner like me ) before moving into the house. I've bored folks on here with my first 7 weeks with a Honey Bee FP video before but here I go again ....

At a budget the two suggested helis will see him right...I'm still learning and I get soooo much pleasure out of my Twister Storm 3D. Both the TS3D and B400 are not top end Helis but if you crash whilst learning they are not going to break the bank..but really great fun....

I agree a club is the defo way to go but if that's not possible with help, guidance and the amount of info on this forum there shouldn’t be a problem....

I've bought my lad a Twister CP Gold and Phoenix for Christmas as the next step up from a contra. It's a bit softer and smaller than the Blade 400 but equally cheap to repair...

My sons are long past 14 but I remember when they were. Perhaps some real experience would be a good idea at a flying school like the one Graham (helitv) uses. At 14 he could learn very quickly but he's going to need guidance and somebody needs to come up with a budget.
