Ditto. As I understand it, banking is essentially a confidence trick. The problem isn't that the banks have wasted your money, but rather due to the wonders of 'fractional reserve banking' they never had it in the first place.

After the first bank goes under, taking everyone's savings with it, that confidence is lost. People can try to withdraw their money from their bank, but after the first 10%* of people have withdrawn their money, the bank has no more money. They do have assets that they hope will cover the remaining deposits, but where are people going to get money from to buy them...?

Like Lee said ... most of us give up something to do this hobby ... I think ya will find most of us aint rich gits that do this hobby , but just normal everyday people that have a love of helicopters in common ... Me I dont drink so theres my heli money ... I dont hardly go out n e where either so theres even more money ... If I dont do overtime I dont get new toys , plain and simple ... and like Lee said again .. what I spend my hard earned money on is my biz .....

I have even seen it where I work the overtime dropping off so no spare money for my hobby ... My house and family bills come first .. Dont get me wrong ... I can afford to crash ... It's just the new toys I want are out till next year now lol.....

Sorry guys, didnt mean to offend I'll try keep away next time I crack open my special TKO Hedf***er hombrew (tastes like special brew probly around 12% tho) there was a few pints left over after I bottled it and I tend to like playing devils advocate when I've had a few.

I normally wouldnt comment on this type of thread at all I'm into helis not politics although having said that letting the banks go to the wall would have destroyed many normal peoples lives (I had money in icesave and northern rock). We all have to live with these hard times and it was obvious years ago something had to give. What are you really gonna achieve by going on about it?

ps. I wasnt having a go at you Lee but of course theyre toys. Not sure what you mean by 'understanding the mentality'. I struggle to afford this hobby too and fly a lot less than I would like due to the fact I cant afford to crash and hence never have done.

Not gonna argue whether there toys are not, thats not my perogative here. Trust me we all struggle to afford this hobby so your not the only one there. Thats whether your pulling an income or not. Nobodys going on about it mate, were simply having a discussion (thats what ya do on forums). The way your talking you'd think we were gonna start petitioning and go to downing street lol. Quite the opposite... its merely a discussion and all i said was i agreed. Simple as that. Its so blatant that you assumed here though. Hey if we all done that just where would we be. I'm sure most of the Major outlets will do there best to maintain a healthy market by not screwing customers with current stock and respective prices.

BUT Allegedly

A certain distributer phoned round all the Model shops they supply to telling them to increase all there current stock prices by 20% with immeadiate effect.

This distributer I'm lead to believe works a sale or return Basis so instantly made a nice fat 20% profit margin

I have my mortgage with the northern rock and when they went to the Gov for help it unsettled me a little over it all .... But TBH will give NR there due they did keep my informed and tbh its not that hard for me to swop my mortgage if i wanted to ...As for the retailers raising the prices before they run out of the old stock then they want there butts kicking and deserve to lose custom imo ......This hobby affords me more than just crashing tho .... It's about like minded people enjoying something we all have in common ....Timmy .. if you can't afford to crash then tbh m8e you need to be in another hobby m8e .....

In fact I'm not totally sure I do agree. Theres seems to be a wide spectrum of people with very different views who are brought together by a single common love of helis.

True .. this is what brings us all together at the end of the day .. flying ...The world would be a boring place if we all had the same views and opinions tho and I think that's what is good with this hobby .. There people from all walks of life and backgrounds and stuff ... So for me its all good .... As for posts on different things apart from helicopters .. this is why we have diff sections to post in
