  • Need Help With Twister 3d Storm!!!

Hi guys, I have a Problem, I have a Twister 3D Storm R/C helicopter with a Hi-tec Optic 6 sport transmitter, I crashed it a few weeks ago and bent the tail boom and broke a servo, so I fixed it all up. I crashed it because it was supposed to be trimmed, but it was not, When I lift it off the ground, the helicopter hovers back, yaws left and rolls either right or left, I do not remember, I have checked the CG and it is all fine. I have tried trimming it but it does not work, do I just need to put alot of trim on it?

Also, when I put alot of throttle on, the Tail Boom slides back into the main frame a little, no matter how hard I tighten it! Is there any way of fixing this too?

    Thanks alot everyone, Lincoln.

it sounds like you may need to set up your heli a bit better and get every thing level but they are all common problems mate. yes you may need a fair bit of trim to stop the tendency to fly back wards. the roll also (although they do tend to roll left on lift off so not too much) it goes without saying use training undercarriage!!!?? for your first few flights.

there are several methods to cure the boom problem.

1 fit an extra servo clamp against the frame
2 wrap a piece of insulating tape around the boom before fitting
3 slide the boom out and apply a few drops of ca glue before tightening.

if you look in the blade 400 section there are a couple of sticky threads there to help beginners with set up and calming the heli down

as far as set up goes disable the motor(take one large wire off. or use throttle hold) place both sticks in the center. check that your rear servo arms are level. and the front push pull servo arm is at 90 degrees to the servo. then make sure the swash is level.
thats just a basic start but after a crash its the most common thing that are refitted wrong

      Hi Lincoln

      Welcome to the forum!

I had similar problems with my Blade 400 to start with. They say these RTF models have actually been flown but in some cases, they really don't appear to have been. I guess adjustments could have moved in shipping...

Anyhow, what I did was read everything on the forum and make sure, if its your first heli, that the settings aare tamed down a lot. Boggy's sticky post is really good and shows settings for the DX6i so with lucjk you should be able to adapt them for the Storm.

One would hope that the mechanical settings should be fairly close "out of the box" so maybe tweaking some radio settings will help.

When I had to rebuild, the most important thing is to make sure the swashplate is level wherever the throttle/collective stick is (assuming the right (cyclic) stick is centred. This in theory means that it shouldn't bank to either side much.

One thing to remember is that CP helis are inherently unstable (especially the smaller ones like your Storm and my Blade) so they need constant inputs to prevent them moving around.

If you get a chance, try to get a more experienced pilot to have a look - they'll sort it for you quickly... the problem with being a newbie (as I am too) is that you're never really sure if its your flying or the heli that causes the crashes!!!

I'm having lessons and my instructor flew my Blade beautifully yesterday so in my case, the problem is my flying not the heli!!

Best of luck, and keep posting if you need more help. When I had problems, I uploaded a few photos of the head and got some great advice...

      All the best

I totally agree on what you have said about the link rods / swash-plate etc but when i done exactly that and eyed it all level and then gone into a hover i've had to either make adjustments to the links or trim it out (prefer adjusting the links) and then had a look at the swash plate position/level and its looked out of level etc.....just out of interest what what swash mix settings are people using as the standard settings for the dx6i are.......

        Aile.........+60%
        elev........+60%
        pitch.......+60%

My pitch is set at -60 instead of the plus 60% as i believe its been reversed..........would changing them to a larger numbers give problems like to much servo throw and binding prob's etc.....i think that some of the swash-plate leveling issues are from the 3 ccpm 120' mixing.

WOW! thanks soo much you guys, I only joined today and am very impressed with the fast replies I have gotten, I know I sound like an idiot but I would never have thought about putting an extra servo arm at the end of the boom to stop it sliding, thanks soo much Boggy, And as for setting up my heli, I paid someone $40 to fully set it up for me, since it is an artf and I am new, and it crashed because it was poorly trimmed, so I am going to contact a professional instructor.

Thanks alot for all your help guys, you have probably saved me $100'a hahaha, Lincoln.

YAY! i trimmed the roll on the twister a little just then, its hard to me cuz its an electronic trim not a original slider trim, but will post up servo pics right now so you guys can tell me what to do

                Thanks alot, Lincoln.

I've been told not to take any wires off in the past. The heli instructions say you can take all three wires off. If you just take one off, won't there be current flowing through the other two? It could be a lot of current in a stalled motor. Perhaps it's ok with certain escs?

Hi guys, I just loaded up the photos of my ts3d servos when it is turned on, the back tail pitch servos when i turned it on shot to the right and i dont know why (as u cn see in the photo) and it was making a buzzing sound but it is a brand new servo and i havnt crashed it yer, why is this? and there is a pic of the flybar, i know u cant see it but it looks like there is a slight upwards bed in the flyb ar, is that normal or woud i need to replace it?? but yer can you guys please tell me if those servos are in the right positions (the arms etc.)

                    Thanks soooooo much, Lincoln.
