I should add that you aren't supopsed to be able to buy the Align engine unless you have bought the Trex700 kit. Something to do with the deal between Align and OS... and Align not simply selling basically the same engine at a cut price (under OS).
I've got the Align engine with the blue head, great engine and as has already been said made by OS.
The only issue I have with it is the Blue head, the quality of metal alloy is crap, seems like typical Align 'cheese' alloy to me. So I would speculate that only the Black head is made by OS, particularly as they don't produce a Blue headed version.
I stripped the Glow plug thread very easily on mine, now got the OS black head to replace it but that cost me £50 to replace from US, would of been £100 in UK (Ridiculous price!)
If I was to buy another it would be the Align with the F3C black head for me
3month warranty? I'd like to see a retailer try to enforce that one! I'd be straight to the small claims court if mine went pop within the first year! Not fit for purpose I'd claim!

Have you ever tried to straighten a slightly bent piece of align alloy after a crash?
If you have you'll know what I mean, I'm not really complaining by the way, there has to be a reason why Align gear is that bit cheaper and this is one of them

No, not yet
Say you dont crash, does the "cheese" crack, bend, deform, corrode etc?
Not sure what's happening but in defence there are plenty of Aircraft related alloys that would crack if you tried to re-bend them without treatment.
trebor, it is a VERY common misconception you get a 1 year warranty with EVERYTHING in uk. nothing could be further from the truth. let me put something to you. do you think you could hand a duracell battery back when you've drained it and get new one? ermmm no. why is this is? well it's because the manufacturer can sell goods that can be classed as disposable in the duracell instance. they can also sell things and so long as they can argue the product is used in a harsh condition they are not obliged to offer the 1 year warranty. for example most lipos etc don't have a 1 year warranty and if they do it's because the company is being kind and attracting customers. the reason they can do this is because the product is open to severe misuse, as are these engines.
i'm told most things align sells have a 3 month warranty..............if someone could prove me wrong i would be delighted as i was surprised when i was told.
I wasn't saying for an instance that you should get a 1 year warranty on a duracell battery mate, that's just STUPID!
Even a rechargeable for that matter, both of these have life spans and do wear out, it's plainly foreseeable that having a Lipo battery that is regularly discharging at 60 Amps PLUS, you might have a shorter life span when compared to your mobile phone battery!
All item you buy have an "expected" life span, even a glow engine! I'm sure a judge would agree that if an engine isn't mistreated and operated in accordance with the manufacturers manual that it absolutely does have a longer life than 3 months!
Please note ALL manufactures warranties are always for faulty craftsmanship/goods! Not for wear and tear or damage resulting from it's misuse! But as customer in the UK we are covered by further retail laws including "merchantable quality" and "fit for purpose"
If the engine case cracks after 6 months, I'm not talking worn bearings or a blown glow plug here, and I've not been running the engine lean, had any unreasonable crashes with it then if the retailer will not see sense I'll see them in small claims court as the goods are plainly not fit for purpose!
From my understanding that's what a lot of these things come down to in small claims court, it's not a criminal court, so it's not "beyond all reasonable doubt". If a judge agrees that he/she believes an item should have a longer life time than it has had, and you can satisfy him/her, to a REASONABLE extent that you have take care of the item and as a result the damage is UNLIKELY to have been as a result of miss-treatment. Then I can see you winning!
If it's a worn out crank bearing I don't see you winning... It's a replaceable item and replacing it could well be seen as a service, much like replacing spark plugs in your car!
If I was to buy another engine, I would pay the extra to go with OS over align. If for no other reason than having better aftersales service, and not having to deal with Robbe UK.
just to throw something in the mix.....the blue headed version has a deeper head and therefore it cools easier. The black head version needs a mod to get the airflow to blow over it properly.
