  • I have got that 'wanna buy a heli' feeling again

    ... this hobby is getting expensive

    So where I am now I have a bit of open space near me, and a lot of time on my hands. It is far too small an area for a 600 though.

    So I am thinking of selling up the 600, and getting something smaller. But what? hmm...

    Weather wise you guys would love this place - there is never much wind, and although it can get chilly there is rarely a cloud in the sky so visibility is good. So wind is not really a problem here - which is making me think - go for a 450 size. Probably an SEv2 or B400.

    However, before I sell up the 600, I have two questions....

    1. Those of you who have flown a 500, are they much smaller than a 600? My thinking is that if the area is too small for a 600, it probably is for a 500.

    2. How much wind is too much for the trex 250?

    Thanks in advance
    John

    Hi

    Between the 500 to 600 size i wouldn't think there is loads in it but to move down to the 250 or 450 sizes you will notice quite a big difference.........the 250 i would think is aim'd at the indoors arena's though its very capable of flying out doors too.......but i think your already thinking a long te lines of the best trade off in buying a 450 size heli.
    T3ds Gy240 S3153 with trex500 skids and trex500 fin set plus now with hybridized canopy and Mini Titan canopy body post set P# PV0816.........Now owned by MoJo have fun

      Looking at the 500 helis fly to me the 500 should need only a bit more space than a 450.
      450 = 325 blade
      500 = 425 blade
      600 = 600 blade.
      The 500 is massively smaller than the 600. But it is supposed to fly more like a larger heli. I will find out soon.

      Main differeence is an excellent battery for a 450 is £35 and a really good charger a bit over £50.
      A good pack for a 5000 is £100+ and the charger is £100+
      The flight time and charging time are very similar.
      So the 500 is a considerably bigger investment.

        Okay...

        Just remember what country your in... winter now and then spring and summer and the Wind!

        The 250 looks a good option until you factor in flying in the wind and how stable a 500 is. The 500 will handle 20mph winds so it is a better option

        I would recomend a 500 any day of the week but which 500 to buy....

            Sorry Disc, I need to update my profile - I am in North Carolina, USA now. Wind is not much a problem where I am: http://www.weather.com/weather/local...rchbox_localwx

            Yup, if it is a 500 then that is the question.

            My current thinking is that unless someone can show me a 250 handling some light wind well, then I am going for the best 500 or SEV2 deal I can find.

              Of the 3 the 500 is certainly the best bet unless you'd like to be able to fly indoors as well?

                            We spent many weekends at Santa Pod years ago and often met up with local Yanks from Airbases etc.

                            They were scared to death of anything over 4% proof an the Farm cider we used to take they'd not even try except for the few with balls

                            Got us "shooting cans of Bud" LMFAO Was more scary drinking a wine glass full of the local cider

                              So you aren't in one of theose dry counties I ended up at in north carolina.

                              In true helliaddicts tradition of recommending the very latest fad, you should consider the slightly bigger than a 450 outrage g5. Packs are still low cost but running 6 cell 1300 the flight time is longer and the 340-50 blade size rather than 325 is supposed to make it fly like a bigger heli and handle the wind better - according to the fan boys.
                              for 6 cells of course you need a more expensive charger though.
