  • Charger Damage Avoided (Thank Fully)

    Hey All,

I finally found out that my ansmann charger can charge my spektrum DX7 if i just aligned + with - and - With + instead of the --++ way,

anyways, while i was awaiting confirmation i did a bit of research on what charger most places sold for the Spektrum DX7, i found that most of them sold the TB2300 Charger (TrickBits) so i went ahead and orderd it from folly models ebay shop,

I read the manual, and it had mechanically wrong polarity protection and that, so i plugged it in, and the green light turned on even tho the plug socket was off, tried with my other charger that operated fine,

So i plug my spektrum DX7 in, and waited a few seconds, my head was like 7" away from the plug so i could notice something wrong, sure i did, i smelt burning from the Charger quite badly, then i think some smoke i was SH!TTTTT I rip the charger out...

so im now like, ok wtf was that all about? its the same model number as the one the shops are selling for it, for example heliguy.com

Luckily, the Tx doesnt seem to be damnaged, turned it on checked the voltage seems pritty much the same.

currently got it on my other one and it charging fine,

So ile probably get in touch with the seller in a minuete or two,

But, has anyone else had a problem using a trickbits charger?

Anybody help as I was just about to buy one of these trickbits chargers too for my spectrum DX7

Callum was yours the same as this (can't see the model number but spec looks the same) and has anyone else ever used one of these successfully and if so is there any particualr method you follow?

I used one of those Trickebits RX/TX chargers while I had my old DX6, and I can only ever remembering it getting slightly warm at best.

You had a very lucky escape there mate, as being a simple transformer plug charger you may have popped down the shops for an hour and the aftermath could have been disastrous.

Don't be put off buying another one Callum, it was just plain bad luck you purchased a faulty unit.

They do make several versions that look the same except for the model number so do make sure you got one that is centre negative, this should be shown in the face of the charger with a little diagram.

i cant remember the last time i used a wall socket charger. my concern is you dont actually know if its charging the battery, no information about how much charge is actually going in etc.

i always take the battery out of the transmitter and charge it on my charger. If your running on nicad/nimh then a pro-peak prodigy is pretty good.

i have an an outrage lipo in my transmitter and obviously use the cellpro 10s charger which i use to charge my flight packs.

I use a multiplex charger that uses banana plugs into the charger so I can change the polarity of the oputput to my Tx if needed .... I run futaba stuff so its no worries there ... I know people that use the same sort of charger and just change the red/black over and never had n e probs .. these chargers do all batteries including field 12volters ... good investment and pretty cheap .. Bout £50 ..12volt input only but i modded a psu offa Pc to run it .....

Well, before i awaited word from another seller that had sold me the powerjack GP i purchased the trick bits one, the PowerJack GP works fine, you just plug the charge connector the other way round instead of --++ its -+-+ and ive been using that since and not a problem, tho the trickbits charger works fine,

the model number i got with the trickbits was TB2300

and i dont see any relevance to a negative pin on the actual unit or manual, though in the manual it does state it has Polarity Protection!

also what would the little digram look like? lol ive got various symbols on it

The diagram is the universal one used on devices like this, usually a 'C' with a dot in the middle, the dot is linked to a + or - to indicate the centre is +/- respectively.

The 2300 really should be centre negative though may just be faulty perhaps.

Ive compared to other images, other chargers show it, but this doesnt, looks like its not negative pin

If it is still working after everything you've described then put a meter on it and see what it really is.
