he has the same rx in his trex500 too?

    which worries me
I believe that may have been the problem.

The AR6200 has twin RX's, the AR6100 only has the one and I would not use it in anything bigger than a 450 Heli as recommended by Spektrum.

    Just my 2p.

I would guide him/her towards the AR6200 for the 500.

£49 is cheap to guard against a possible crash which could cost much more.

Yes I think hovering in the back garden will work fine with the AR6100 but not once the model starts to move away or is moving fast such as the trainer.

        Cheers

No radio system regardless of cost is infallible, and I'm sure the sole reason you hear more DX6i & DX7 TX/RX issues is due to there cost appealing to a larger mass market so hence more are sold, compared to the likes of the DX9 at almost £500, or other professional based controllers.

I'd recommend this chap purchases the DX6i/AR6200 combo as it's a perfectly sound rig, within the budget gap he requires, and I see no possible advantage of him saving extra beyond his budget when for a very long time he'll be able to do more on a DX7 then it's cheaper counterpart the DX6i

          IMHO.
