"An A160T can stay up without refuelling for 20 hours, for instance, and is able to hover without ground effect at much higher altitudes than other helicopters - up to 20,000 feet according to Boeing."

I should hope there isn't any ground effect at 20,000 feet.

                    The japanese version:
                    [ame]http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=yJqSt2fgpIc[/ame]

this one apears to use an articulated rotor head to get a crude cyclic control, rather than relying on weight shift. This tilting head with angled flapping hinges was used for cyclic control on early gyroplanes. The control bar tilts the main shaft directly.

This one has 4 motors and can maintain on 2 and still climb on 3. This makes is "safer" (beacause the main danger is from not being able to auto), as anyone who ever run a multi engined model knows 4 motors = 4 times the chance of motor trouble .

It would seem logical to try a scaled up model rotor head on this and add collective with an engine governor. Then engine out might be surviveable.
