  • Is my DX6 dead?

    Hello all,

Long time no post because I have moved to North Carolina. The boxes are now unpacked and I am only now starting to turn my attention to helis again. All my helis are still in pieces though, so it'll be the sim for the next few weeks.

My darling wife sensing that I'd want to mess around on phoenix put my DX6 on charge for me.

Now when I turn it on the initial voltage shown is about 10.3 then it very rapidly drops to 6.something beeps and shuts down.

    hmm.

The way I have always charged it is using a moulded plug made by MacGregor. It has two cables coming out of it, one of them fits the DX6, the other has yellow, red, and brown wires and looks like a servo cable.

The information on the back of the plug reads...

    Input 240v ~ 50Hz
    Output 5V + 10V DC
    TX output 60mA
    RX output 120mA

She plugged this into a standard travel adaptor.

Now I have no idea about electrical things. So I dont know what has happened.

    My guesses are...

    1. The adaptor is not up to the task of charging. One of those transform convertor adaptor things is needed.
    2. The battery is dead inside the DX6.
    3. The DX6 just wont charge on the US network.
    4. The DX6 is dead.

So I am hoping that someone here that knows a bit about electrics can advise me. Do I need to get one of those adaptor convertor things? AC DC to me is a band. Do I a new charger? a new battery? or do I now have a junk radio?

    thanks in advance,
    John

its more likely that the charger isnt capable of running from 110v

buy a USA mains charger or charge it from your field charger.

if you run a 240v input charger on 110v then it either wont work at all or it will have about half the voltage output.
You must have quite a few devices that need 240v rather than 110v, so you will be needing a 110 to 240 converter anyways so go and get one from radio shack or the likes.
A cheap one will do the charger, but make sure 'er indoors doesn't start plugging hair dryers and the like into it.

Many devices have a switch 110v-240v for the input, some are automatic 110-240v - but you will undoubtedly have stuff that won't work on 110v.

Doesn't the DX6 have std AA cells in it like the DX6i? in which case you can use a normal consumer type AA charger for the batteries.

Nice folks in NC, though the guy I worked with explained in great length to me how Lincoln wasn't his favourite historical figure, and how there were so many organisations to help the blacks but the kkk didn't get similar support despite its many good works on behalf of the white folks.
I guess he didn't vote for the new president!

          John,

If your radio is dead (although I suspect the 240v charger is at fault too!) then Cambs-Flyer has one for sale for £50.

          Thought this might be useful?
          regards

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I have ordered a replacement charger. There dont seem to be many places stocking them. I wonder if Spektrum are discontinuing the line.

Hopefully it will work. If it does not I'd rather not bin it, so should anyone want it I'll post it back.

All is going well out here. Well I have not found a job yet, so that is not good. Other than that though all is cool. The weather is warm and the locals are friendly. I am in place called Carrboro which is very "new-age". The female to male ratio is something like 70/30 as well, which is just... wow. So you are welcome to visit

I have not found any heli clubs yet. My 600e is still in pieces and without a job I cant really justify buying batteries for it.

I had planned on spending some of this down time trying to get phoenox working on Linux. It looks like directx9 is now supported, so it *should* be possible.

Thanks again for the advice guys - I'll post up an update once the charger arrives.

Glad you've got your tx sorted. I've just been flying the Trex 600 on Phoenix. Much nicer than mine. My son's been over in California for about six years now, really likes the people. He had to get a temp job to start then went on to permi. What sort of a job are you looking for I can ask him if he knows anyone you could contact?
