FINALLY!
So I spent 2 hours looking for a suitable place to fly my trex as I was off work today and the weather was ok. I went to where my local club apparently fly and all I could see was a water logged field. Hunted around some more but where ever I found somewhere it was full of people and there is no way I'm letting them see me do this badly or risk killing one of their dogs! lol
So I headed home
As I was turning into my area I saw a sign pointing out of the valley to a park. 360 around the round-about, up the hill and there it is. Totally deserted and miles from anywhere. Result
So I'm in the park(eh field with bushes really)...I can see my car...all is good.
After a month of starting up in my front room I whip her out and get her going. Woo hoo! I seem to have set her up a treat. I'm hovering 2ft of the ground very comfortably. She was drifting to the left so I added trim. Did the job.
Lets go higher I think (run before crawl syndrome).
Up she goes looking great wind gives a slight nudge (big for a newbie) and she basically eats tree!!! lol
Bye bye main blades, tail blades, tail fin and cheap align tail servo. Oh, and the pod was smashed. Shame I didn't have my new camera switched on cause it would have looked cool. But all in all I don't feel too gutted. I have a box full of spares so I do my first field repair.
The hs-65hb servos are obviously quality coz they're fine and after silly mistakes in the house other lesser servos died. This was a proper crash and they survived so respect to them.
Now a question:
I fitted one of my new hs-50s as the tail servo and it looked to work fine. The tail assembly looks fine also with no binding. I had to reverse the servo on my tx which is probably normal and also reverse the gyro which is probably normal??? But what happens is if I turn the rudder one way it's fine and returns to the middle. If I turn it the other way it's fine but doesn't return to the middle!!! Only if I pull it to the middle. When I turn the rudder to the problem side you can see it returning very slowly. The servo and tail look fine...honest. And without the arm on the servo it's also fine. Everything moves great. Does anyone have an answer to this? Could the align gyro be gone? When I approached the heli it was whining like mad. I thought it was the main gear but I had done everything right (shut down throttle then lock it off). When I got to it it was the tail servo crying for its life. Could that have killed the gyro?
If I can resolve this I'll be off tomorrow (birthday) and get back out. I've found a little secret place! hehe
Q2. Are tail fins that important?
Q3: I put a set of my new cf blades in and they looked well tracked but were a tight squeeze in to the arms. Is that ok?
Oh, the flybar also bent but I bent it back and it looks fine. No wobble on throttle up.
