  • Recommend me an IC Heli...

Ok, so lets say I was to sell my electric and get an IC heli. What's your recommendations?

I'm a beginner so maybe a Raptor 30? Or something bigger?

I would love it if anyone replying would speak from the heart and tell me ones you love...not just ones that may be right for a beginner.

Well if you want an economical 30 then the Raptor 30 would fit the bill. The alternative would be to actually go for a .50 yes more power, but you could configure the heli not to use the full performance factor. Then when your flying progresses you can open up the envelope to give far greater performance.

Downside is, more fuel and more expensive on repairs. However, the .50 mkt has a wider variety of heli's these day's to choose from.

      Sceadu .50 (Hirobo)
      Raptor .50 (TT)
Caliber 5 due out soon (Kyosho)
      Knight .50
      Ornith .46 (Robbe)
      Airskipper .50 (JR)

Upside is it will give longer lasting is terms of the development of your flying, slightly more stable as the rotor disc, weight and overall bigger size of the heli will help you.
      Cheers

Fantastic answer Nail well and truelly on head. Now I can research in confidence with both your advice. Chappers: Craptor? Is that because they're common or crap

I would like easy repairs and parts.

          Hi
I have to so Raptor 30/50 with basic sevos 3001s and a heading hold
gyro. Plus a FF7 tranny and your well on your way.

I dont have any digi servos in my Raptor and its a great flyer
easy to build and maintain which is important.

Shuttles are very good as well but the Raptor looks a lot better
          and tougher.

If you want to learn to fly and then go scale flying then
I'd say Shuttle or Hawk more body options.

goto a local club though and see what they fly it helps to see
what models you can buy in the air....

Nowt wrong with a Raptor, yes you'll find a high % of starters go with an R30. It was my second heli and without doubt one of the easiest to repair.

It really depends on what your looking for. I do believe that TT is about to release a new Raptor not sure when though.

If you go for plastics frames, then you'll find it generally less painful on the pocket, in saying that the Knight .50 I believe for a stacked framed heli is very economical and in some cases cheaper than a Raptor. Ade will give you a good answer on this heli.

The choice is yours with plenty to pick from.
            Cheers

Plenty indeed. To many but your advice is helpful. I wanna weigh up my options. I love my little trex se but I'm not out there flying and I'm getting frustrated. If I sold it I'd do alright cozit has cf spares to the max.

I'm gonna seriously look at it but yr arguement for 50s is ringing true for me stuart.

It's an all new ball game. Different electrics, servos, esc etc etc

                  symon,
i am still a novice but i started with a dragonfly fixed pitch (waste of a lot of money) then i bought a raptor 30 v1 off ebay, waited a while till i found someone to help me check setup etc (phil nerchc), started with sim and then decided to go for it after a lot of sim time not as bad as i thought,in the meantime i saw chappers with a trex so took the plunge and bought one of them spent a lot of money on metal upgrades found it a lot harder to fly and set up compared to the rappy, then decided to buy raptor 50v2 wich i still have and i would definately recommend it more stable than the 30 and better in wind plus more power, have since sold trex and bought a graupner bell 47 g a contrablade mini electric excellent for indoor so stable,so i am sticking with my 50v2 as it will be a while before i need to upgrade to anything bigger, hope this helps,
                  regards

                    Thanks 54,

That's what I could have done with being told a month ago

My trex is an se so is blinged up. It's too big for my home but too small for the winter

Your story is what I wanted in reality.

I'm gonna stick at it though. I'd love a huge rap or something but I think I'm spent out. I'll monitor this with high interest.

                        Might try it.

There's a Haribo shuttle plus in the classifieds. Looks ok.
