  • B certificate examiner in north yorks

Hi guys! I've been flying helis for a while, mainly on my own at a quiet aerodrome near my home in north yorkshire. I'd really like to have a crack at the B certficate but I dont know any examiners. Can anyone help me out?

Here's a list of clubs in your area http://www.bmfa.org/clubs/clist.php

Or give the BMFA a ring and am sure they will be only too glad to help you

Oh and welcome to the site ... I also recommend that you read the BMFA handbook

I'm also in the North Yorkshire area, just, I'm a wee bit further North than you though!

I know a few of the examiners in my local area, give me a shout if you'd like help finding an examiner to get you through your test.

Don't forget that you'll need a couple of Club Examiners or a Area Chief examiner (who can do the test solo) for a B Cert Test

I think we should organise a "Test Day" one Sunday around Yorkshire so all of us can get this done Jez.

What time are you gonna be here..

Thanks for the warm welcome I'm a member at cleveland club so asked them about doing it but they dont know any examiners in the area, also asked at York and they dont know anyone either. I dropped the BMFA an email last week but they havnt got back to me yet so I'll try give them a call tomorrow see what I can find out. Northern area test day sounds like a great idea.

Thanks for jogging the old grey matter there... on looking through my BMFA Instructor/Examiner notes I have found...

The examination for a helicopter ‘B' Certificate may be taken on application to a Registered Examiner. The examination may be carried out by:
                    (a) Two Registered Examiners (the ‘lead’ must be a Helicopter Examiner)
                    (b) A Helicopter Chief Examiner

If your club does not have any Registered Helicopter Examiners, you should contact your local Area Achievement Scheme Co-ordinator who will be able to help. Names and telephone numbers of Area Co-ordinators are available from the BMFA Leicester office.

                    Ref. Handbook 2007

                    where as...

The examination for a helicopter ‘A’ Certificate may be taken on application to any Registered Club Examiner or Chief Examiner. The candidate mustsuccessfully carry out the following flying test:
                    Ref. Handbook 2007

                    and...

A pilot capable of flying to ‘B’ certificate standards and wishing to go straight to the Helicopter ‘B’ test without taking the ‘A’ test may do so but candidates should on no account be forced along this path. A flyer, known within a club to be a good pilot, going through the ‘A’ before taking the ‘B’ can be an excellent example to the rest of the club members and this should be pointed out to any candidate wishing to go direct to the ‘B’.
                    Ref. Heli-A-Issue5 & Heli-B-Issue6

Full details of these documents can be found at http://www.bmfa.org/resources/index.html under Handbook and Achievement Schemes.

So I guess it may be decision time, pick a letter and let the fun comence.

I'll have an 'E' please Bob!

Well thats great I'm finding it hard enough to find one bloomin examiner never mind two of em. I think the idea of a test day would be good not only for people taking the test but for people with it in mind for future so they can see the expected standard (well done busterboy). Regarding the doing the A test first I have no other heli flying members at the aerodrome to set an example for so I'll have a B please bob. Besides I've already set the old plank fliers down there a good example.....

                          You have indeed.

Wicked flying mate and looking at that video taking the A test would be a waste looking at the quality of your flying..

Awesome flying, How long have you been flying helis in the outback to get to that stage.

Cheers mate Started with a T-Rex 450 about 2.5 years ago, got the 600 Nov last year but only flown it 5 or 6 times as I cant really afford to crash. I spend a lot of time reading up, tinkering, simming and flying my 450 when the weather lets me. Hence I've only ever crashed once due to pilot error on a windy day trying to do piro tick tocks with my 450 (the tail let go when I nailed the collective).

Does that mean one of the examiners could be a fixed wing examiner?
