Troy Anthony Davis is currently on death row in Georgia and his execution had been scheduled for September 23rd, 2008. Two hours before he was to be killed he received stay from the U.S. Supreme Court pending its decision as to whether it will hear his appeal. On October 14, 2008, the Court denied his request for relief so that his evidence of innocence could be heard in a legal proceeding. Just one day later, Troy Davis' execution was set for October 27 at 7pm EST. In 1991, Troy was convicted in the murder of off-duty police officer Marc MacPhail largely on the basis of eyewitness testimony—no physical evidence links him to the crime. Since his trial, seven of nine eyewitnesses have recanted their original statements, yet federal law prevents these new eyewitness statements from being heard. On September 12, 2008 he was denied clemency by the Georgia Board of Pardons and Paroles.



Well, im not sure what to say, most of it makes me mad that, that guy could be innocent and be killed because the Supreme Court bassicaly says "We dont give a sh!t" now im strongly against the death penalty, but ive been watching this for a while and im just mad as to why in the modern world this sort of stuff happens and its in a civilised country aswell,

Their system is seriously flawed, but at least they have the courage to dispose of murderers & serious criminals. Not like this lilly-livered country where we lock them up & then let them loose to offend again. IMHO

Sorry for the rant but a close friend of mine was stabbed to death and the scumbag only got 7 yrs- probably only serve 3 then he's out again to ruin someone's else life,,,,,,, And yes, I'am for the death penalty.

True it should be in the off topics threads .... As for our system .. Good job I aint a judge.. Death penalty is the only way this country needs to go as its falling apart at the seems and needs something doing to it before we have people taking the law into there own hands with the feral little scumbags... I aint been no angel growing up but ya look at em now and they will rob grannies, stab n e one for a penny ... I say n e one caught with a knife in public unless you bought from a shop and taking it home for your house then should get an automatic life sentence and for it to mean life .. I for one would pay more tax to lock the little fuggers up ... I lost my auntie a few years back to being stabbed by her boyfriend so know what its like ...

.and anyone not paying their car tax SHOULD be executed. Likewise uninsured drivers, driving without a licence....The law is the law.

Then we should get real hard with other criminals.

To be serious, anyone killing someone else without good cause & clearly proven to have done so should face the death penalty. Carrying weapons must also be clamped down on. One of the problems is that Police cannot just search someone unless they suspect they are carrying or have intelligence they are carrying. Why not random searches? I for one would not mind the odd few minutes being searched if it means saving lives.

Yeah, i can agree with all of you, but the point is. is that someone is on death row that is possibly innocent and 7 of the 9 witnesses recanted there testimony and the supreme court has denied to hear new evidence of his innocence.. now thats a bit fcked up if you ask me
