  • Gyro help

hi i need some help with gyro settings. the gyro is a csm 360 with a futaba 9254, tx is a ff9, but label is the 9cp airplane, set up in heli mode, not the 9cap or chp models.

ok before i start i am going to be buying another gyro but i still would like to know how to set the 360 up as it will be kept as a spare.

gyro instructions say to set rudder and gyro atv values to 50% each way.
on the tx atv menu i have done that. but then on the gyro menu i have set the gyro sensing to gyr not std like it tells you. set the gyro mode switch to the 3 position switch c so i can change between std and hh modes. then i have set the the gain values to either + or - 50% to give either std or hh modes. is this correct so far?

then when its all connected up and in std mode the servo moves fine through all of its travel and at the same speed. but in hh mode it moves at its normal speed around centre but at the end of its travel either end it slows right down till the end of the travel.

is this normal? and im now going to buy another gyro and my choice is the csm sl 560 micro or the futaba 401. and should i mount them at them on the radio tray on my shuttle zxx, not on the gyro mount so its away from the engine.

hope you understand what im setting on my tx.

    cheers

i am very rusty on the 360. The standard CSM technique should probably work.

put the gain up to about 60% in HH and Normal.

But slightly diffferent as it doesnt have a setup mode to calibrate the centre. So firstly put it in HH mode and adjust the trim inflight until it doesnt drift.

    then

put it in normal mode and hover it. adjust the length of the pushrod until it doesnt drift.

Then adjust the gain until it just about wags in HH its worth trying different servo horn lengths/gain values to see what works best with the 9254.

the behaviour of the servo you are seeing is normal.

      thanks for the help.

im just stuck on my tx settings. if i leave gyro sensing on the cond option with it set to inh then on the atv menu is that where i will adjust the gain?

since i want to the gyro mode switch seperate from the flight mode switch then am i right to set gyro sensing to switch c? does that then take over the gyro gain from the atv menu?

all i want to do is be able to change between std and hh hold in any flight modes.

its hard to try and explain, so i hope you know what im trying to do.

      thanks for all your help

      cheers

oh and on the 360 instructions they tell you to start with rudder atv at 50% and gyro gain atv to 50%

so the gyro gain this way is set at 50% for both std and hh for setting up?

so by setting the gyro sensing to switch c on my tx am i right in thinking that takes over the gyro gain from the gyro atv menu?

would it be easier to just change to the sl560 micro or the futaba 401? lol

        thanks

          Mark,

Can't help you too much regarding the CSM setup but I'm sure Ade has that covered. But with regards to mounting your gyro you want the place of least vibration. The gyro doesn't need to be near the main shaft as it all does is sense the rate of rotation.. which is the same no matter how far you are from the main shaft. Generally you want the gyro to be away from the engine but on something relatively solid.. the end of the battery tray is not a great place as it probably flaps around a bit.. With the plastic models you should be pretty safe anywhere on the main frame as the plastic does a good job of absorbing the vibration.. metal/carbon models however are a different kettle of fish as they love to send the engine vibes everywhere!

          Cheers

after a lot of messing around today i think ive sorted my problem.

i have moved the channel 5 control to switch c. even though the instructions say its set to f and is not assignable.

so now i have it set as per the gyro instructions, switch c changing from std to hh with a single gain setting for the 2 modes.

as for mounting i will just keep it on the gyro platform the shuttle provides, even though this is close to the engine. i was just worried about the heat affecting the performance.

            thanks for all your help
