Ok I know a gasser engine uses petrol, and produces no smoke, but thats the limit of my knowledge. Are they 2 stroke? Why does almost no one use them in heli's. Do they run a normal 2 stroke fuel or does it have any additives?

I'd say its the expense when they crash for me...
The right Gasser can 3D but the weight of them means they cannot do all the tricks very well.
I've had 2 well the same one twice and well... all i can say is they fly nice they are solid and you will know if you bend it...
Yes the produce less smoke and are 2 strokes and they are easier to take to the field 1 fuel can 1 helicopter and 1 tranny a few have pull starts making them very easy to start and more reliable than glow engines as well.

Depending upon the powerplant they can vibrate a lot too, a friend of mine couldn't keep the exhaust on his gasser X-Cell for more than a couple of flights before it fell off.Steve H

Depends on engine and if you can get it to run smooth...Originally posted by SRH990 View PostDepending upon the powerplant they can vibrate a lot too, a friend of mine couldn't keep the exhaust on his gasser X-Cell for more than a couple of flights before it fell off.
The Zonah Hanson 23cc modified is probably the smoothest heli engine the 26cc has more power but does not run as smooth

He got tempted by the Zenoah 26cc, I know the 23cc is a smoother engine as a friend of mine particularly wants the 23cc version for his scale Vario Lama, a metal lattice frame and vibes = not a good mix

Granted the mufflers can be a problem but if the Hub and Clutch are dialled in correctly when the engine if fitted you won’t have any problems like the muffler falling off.Originally posted by SRH990 View PostDepending upon the powerplant they can vibrate a lot too, a friend of mine couldn't keep the exhaust on his gasser X-Cell for more than a couple of flights before it fell off.
I built a 600 gasser late last year and I’ve flown it all summer without any part failing or dropping off, the best part is the fuel cost and the fact you never need to clean it.Attached Files

The Engine used in the Vario is an RC engine like the ones used in RC cars, they are big and heavy.Originally posted by SRH990 View PostHe got tempted by the Zenoah 26cc, I know the 23cc is a smoother engine as a friend of mine particularly wants the 23cc version for his scale Vario Lama, a metal lattice frame and vibes = not a good mix
