  • Is my ESC knackered?

    Gutted...

Repaired the trex450 this morning after new parts arrived in the post, checked it outside, sorted a slight mis-tracking problem.

Off up to the field this afternoon. Careful spool up, made sure everything operating normally. Up in the air, corrected a slight trim, then it comes down after about 10 secs in the air (fortunately only a couple of feet up).

Bit odd thinks I, so re-centred, spooled up, in to hover, smae thing happens, this time I spot a wisp of smoke

Also noticed a flashing light on my Rx (Spektrum 6100). Thought I'd swap the battery just in case but no joy, same result, spools up, then cuts out.

ESC feels pretty warm to the touch, all servo's operating normally.

Is my ESC goosed? It's a 35amp Otter BS35A if that helps.

If I'm looking for a new one, what would you suggest?
Thanks in advance for any answer/recommendations.

Peed off coz it is as still a day as I remember Was really looking forward to a few test/learning flights.

Its the standard Align RCE-BL35X ESC and the motor is the Align 430XL outrunner motor both of which comes with the Align T-Rex 450SE v2

You can have both for £50 or £25 for the ESC on its own plus £3 postage.

Already had a response from the company in the US I bought it from. Sending a replacement out in the post today. Very good of them, but it means I'm out of action for a few weeks, so I might have to buy one now and keep the replacement as a spare.

Any other recommendations in addition to those above?

Just been looking at Scorpions on a retailers website, they sound very good for the money. Would getting a 45A do me any harm? Presumably as it can handle more current it gives me more of a comfort zone? They are only about £32 at Midland...
