  • 700N almost in due to regulator failure

    Hi all,
had a scare today when I had my 700 in a hover about 20ft up.
It suddenly twitched with full left aelironand then levelled up again before twitching again and levelling again.
I immediately hit throttle hold and managed to get the bird down with a bit of a whack but only broke 1 skid bow.
    On investigation I found this

as you can hopefully see the solder joint near my finger has a crack in it!
This is the 5V output from my reactorX regulator to the receiver.

It also looks like a minature person has taken a bite out of the circuit board

Its wierd how something so small could have ended up costing something so large!!

    Adrian.

        Very lucky.
Not having much luck with electrics recently.
After my last in with the 600NSP due to a bad deans connector.

Nice one mate. At least you know it is not the Tx at fault which we cast speculation at.

Already repaired it and ordered an ElyQ reg too just in case.

My buttocks were rather tight in fact I got cramp!
I did think 'Oh no not again'.
I hate these types of failures as you don't really feel comfortable taking the bird back up afterwards.

                      Wow.
My mate lost his Stratus a few weeks back with no obvious reason, just lost control.
                      Had a reactor on it.
Was about to fly his 700 on Saturday and the Rx wouldn't power uo untill he wiggled the wires on his reactor.
Just going to open them up and check the soldering.

                      Align T-Rex 450 Pro
T-REX 250, had it since crimbo(bloody tail) want to smash it with a hammer
                      T-Rex 700......STUNNING (Thirsty) (Now with 3GX)

No plank flyers were hurt whilst making this post

Right, he has just had a look, both of them have a split in the solder like your one.
Seems to be a bit of a design/manufacturing flaw.

He's going to get in touch with Scott Gray and see what he says.
Might be a good idea for you to do the same.

Will post some pics when he takes some.

Think if you remove the old solder and drill a small hole in the center of the pads and then run a wire from the two points as well as the solder, or put a wire loop in.. both will work better that just solder.

Good find mate, might save a few models with the heads up on this one..

Good save Adrian! Glad you got it down safely. Have you thought about just sticking an Align 2-in-1 on it mate?

I just missed you at the field today. We were talking about that Chinese shuttle 'Spacedocking'. I'll fill you in when I see you.

                              Nice catch Ade

stick a ar7100r on it and feed the servos with 8v, you know you want too :P

I wonder if this is cuz of the crappy lead free solder that now has to be used as its greener.
DMHC = Nice place to fly!
