  • 3 Needle Carb on 50 Hyper

Does anyone know the model number of the 3 needle carb that some people like to run on their 50 Hyper engines to tune out the mushy bit in the rev range?

I've got an OS 60K carb (taken from a OS70 SZ-H) here in perfect working order going for sale, but am not sure if this is the one that is saught after.

Mounting shaft is the same diameter as the standard Hyper carb (60L), but is a fraction longer (maybe 1.5mm), so might need a bit of trimming maybe.

I ran a carb off an OS70, but can't be sure which one because it was bought used.
I ran into tuning difficulties and fitted a std hyper carb.
So i also have a three needle carb on the shelf.

oh, and I also have a std SX non hyper carb too.

Back when the OS50 Hypers weren't available yet, I used an OS 60B 3 needle carb with good results.
You must remove the washer between the crankcase & the carb base, & remove the nylon sleeve from the carb base to allow it to fit into the crankcase.

This worked well as the 60B was a vast improvement over the 40E carb which was standard on the old OS50 SX-H (non hyper).
The 40E needed a modification to the cat-eye to remove the lean spot around the middle. This lean spot forced us to run the top end rich which deprived us of max power.
The 60B carb was another option.

BUT, the 60LH carb which comes on the Hypers now is MUCH better than the 60B 3 needle.

If it's mushy it needs tuning.
Try a higher nitro content, &/or a slightly hotter plug.
Enya 3 is the go for the Hypers.

The Hyper is a weapon if tuned correctly.
The large diameter throat of the 60LH carb makes for huge power.
My T600n is a monster on just 20% Nitro/20% CoolPower LV.
2150 on the head with bucketloads power and comes down barely even lukewarm.
I feel you'll be going backwards to replace the 60LH carb with anything else.
